PREFACE“Ethics and religion must not stay at home when

we go to work.”—Achille Silvestrini, Cardinal of the Roman Curia.

My purpose of writing this book is to make peopleunderstand that the Spirituality, Ethics and Religion should notbe confined to the temple, mosque or churches. These are theresources which should be utilized in a right manner in order

to ease our life at work. This is the reason I have tried to showHanuman Chalisa, Kabirji Ke Dohey and Holy Religious Signs

from the management point of view. Our holy texts are full ofwisdom; this is my first attempt to mix spirituality with management.

Folks, enjoy your work life, only then you can enjoy yourpersonal life.

This book is for all mankind - entrepreneurs, organizations, management students, employees, professionals and last but not

the least- common man.“Many receive advice, only the wise profit from it.” —Syrus, Publilius

So try to be wise…… :)

Chapter 1- HANUMAN CHALISA : FROM MANAGEMENT POINT OF VIEW

Shri Hanuman is a Hindu deity and an ardent devotee of Shri Rama. He is one of the dearest devotees of Shri Rama. He is a disciple of Shri Ram, whose story is depicted in the Great Indian epic, The Ramayana. He is also known as Maruti, Pavanputra, Kesharinandan, Bajrang Bali and Anjaniputra.

Our sacred texts are full of knowledge we can apply that knowledge in our day to day life as well as in management arena. Here is my small effort to look hanuman chalisa from the management point of view. I have chosen hanuman chalisa because no one on this planet will be so loyal and dedicated to his boss (Rama) like Hanumanji. So every employer will love to welcome an ardent employee like Hanumanji in his company.

There are number of benefits for an organization if it recruits ardent employees like Hanumanji. The benefits are depicted below:

a) Employees like Hanumanji will help control employee attrition level and hence it will help HR save the new employee recruitment cost.b) Company’s marketing strategies, secrets, accounts manipulation will be kept secret with them (top level manager s and middle level managers). It won’t be leaked or shared with the competitors.c) Employees will be ready to work beyond working hours to complete the task, etc.

“Tum Upkar Sugrivahi Keenha,Ram Miali Rajpad Deenha.”

Hanumanji! You rendered a great service for Sugriva, It was you who united him with Shri Ram and installed him on the Royal Throne.

A dedicated employee is not only good for the company but also for the client because an employee act as a bridge between the client and the company, benefiting both the client and the company.

One can also learn one more thing from this couplet- Outsourcing, a strategic management model. Shri Hanumanji helped Sugriva by uniting him with Shri Rama. Shri Rama killed Raja Vali (brother of Sugriva) and installed Sugriva on themagnificent throne.

This shows the benefits of Outsourcing, a strategic management model- Sugriva was incapable of killing Raja Vali, for this reason he got the help of Shri Rama via Shri Hanumanji for killing Vali.

If companies are incapable of producing or servicing in terms of better quality, then it is wise to get the job done from the third party (get the work outsourced)

Page 9: Management ideas ppt

Outsourcing will make your company focused on its core competence, making it more competitive. It will also cut the unnecessary cost and enhance the efficiency of the company.

“Outsourcing and globalization of manufacturing allows companies to reduce costs, benefits consumers with lower cost goods and services, causes economic expansion that reduces unemployment, and increases productivity and job creation.” —Larry Elder, an American radio and television personality.

“Globalization has changed us into a company that searches the world, not just to sell or to source, but to find intellectual capital - the world’s best talents and greatest ideas.” —Jack Welch, the former chairman and CEO of General Electric.

“Tumhare Bhajan Ramko Pavei.Janam Janam Ke Dukh Bisravei.”

Oh Hanumanji! One can reach Shri Rama through devotion to you and becomes free from suffering of several lives.

An employee is the face of an organization; clients come through the employees to the company. And clients get maximum satisfaction if employees provide them with good service or product.

Page 10: Management ideas ppt

Hence, it’s essential for employers to keep their employees happy because a happy employee will keep your clients happy and happy clients will keep your profit and loss account happy.

“A happy employee will lead directly to happy customers.” —Chris Hammond, a former left-handed pitcher in Major League Baseball.

“Even Kings and emperors with heaps of wealth and vast dominion cannot compare with an ant filled with the love of God.”

—Guru Nanak Devji, founder of the Sikh religion.

Chapter 2- KABIRJI KE DOHEY FROM MANAGEMENT OUTLOOK

Kabir (also known as ‘Kabira’) was a spiritual poet and saint of India. He was found by a Muslim weaver named Niru and his wife, Nima, in Lehartara, situated in Varanasi (Banaras), India. He was born probably around the year 1398 AD; he lived for120 years and died in 1518.

The name Kabir comes from Arabic Al-Kabir which means ‘The Great’ - one of the 99 names of Allah (SWT). I have tried to relate Kabira’s spiritual couplets with themanagement philosophy.

“Keson Kaha Bigadia, Je Moonde Sau Baar,Man Ko Kahe Na Moondiye, Jaamein Vishey Vikaar.”

What damage have the hair done, you shave them hundred times, Why not shave your mind, there breed unrestricted numerous toxic thoughts.

Here the hair stands for team leaders or managers and shave represents the reshuffle of team leaders or managers. Shaving of mind means – changing the management style and leadership style where the entire problem begins.

Page 12: Management ideas ppt

It is better to change the organization’s management style and leadership style, instead of changing the team leaders or managers number of times. In Indian workplaces one will find authoritarian culture, autocratic leadership style is widely practiced here, and not only low level employees, but also managers are treated quite rudely.

An organization should not forget the Equity, one of the fourteen principles of management developed by Henri Fayol. This 11th principle says managers or supervisors should treat their subordinates in a kind and fair manner.

There are many –American, Japanese, European and Chinese management styles but an organization should choose the management style which suits its working culture.

Employee friendly management style -The core of the management styleshould be employee friendly which will enable employees to have an easy access to the management to present their problems, suggestions and recommendations.

Employee friendly management style will not only create favorable working atmosphere but also help an organization to retain employees.

“Management by objectives works if you first think through your objectives. Ninety percent of the time you haven’t.” —Peter Drucker, a well known management consultant.“Control is not leadership; management is not leadership; leadership is leadership. If you seek to lead, invest at least 50% of your time in leading yourself—your own purpose, ethics, principles, motivation, conduct. Invest at least 20% leading thosewith authority over you and 15% leading your peers.” —Dee Hock, the founder and former CEO of the VISA credit card association.

“You do not lead by hitting people over the head — that’s assault, not leadership.” —Dwight D. Eisenhower, the 34th President of the United States.

“If the blind lead the blind, both shall fall in the ditch.” —Jesus Christ (Peace Be Upon Him), the founder of Christianity.

“Four rules of leadership in a free legislative body: First, no matter how hard fought the issue, never get personal. Don’t say or do anything that may come back to haunt you on another issue, another day.... Second, do your homework. You can’t lead without knowing what you’re talking about.... Third, the American legislative process is one of give and take. Use your power as a leader to persuade, not intimidate.... Fourth, be considerate of the needs of your colleagues, even if they’re at the bottom of the totem pole....”—George Bush, Former President of the United States. “Speak softly and carry a big stick; you will go far.” —Theodore Roosevelt.

“Gur Dhobi Sikh Kapda, Saboo Sirjan Har,Surti Sila Pur Dhoiye, Nikse Jyoti Aapar.”

Guru is the washer man, disciple is the cloth, the name of God compared to the soap, Wash the mind thoroughly clean (on base solid) to realize the glow of truth. Trainer is your Guru (washer man) and trainee is the cloth (an employee- disciple).Trainer should invest his knowledge into employees and also help employees enhance their professional skills by providing proper on the job training; this will boost their job performance. And the trainee (an employee) should put his heart into training and development as this is the only period which helps him understand his job roles, improve his knowledge about the company, its products or services and help hone his skills. The more you learn under training, the less you panic at work.

“The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.” —William Arthur Ward, American dedicated scholar, author, editor, pastor and teacher.

“Learning without thought is labor lost. Thought without learning is intellectual death.” —Confucius. “Training is everything. The peach was once a bitter almond; cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education.” —Mark Twain, an American author and humorist.

Chapter 3 - HOLY RELIGIOUS SIGNS FROM MANAGEMENT PERSPECTIVE

Jainism - SwastikaThey say, Jack of all trades, master of none. An employee should be able to execute all the jobs assigned to him. He should be multi tasking just like the four hands of the Swastika.

An organization should follow a management technique called - Job rotation in order to produce multi tasking employees. It’s a management technique in which employees are moved to various jobs or departments in a planned manner.

Be an all-rounder as you never know what problem life is going to toss at you.

Page 16: Management ideas ppt

From the management point of view, when you look at the above given symbol, there are two sides white and black. Consider circle to be an organization, black side to be employees and white side to be management of an organization. Now, that white dot in the black side of the circle is nothing but love, respect for the management in the hearts of the employees. And black dot in the white side of the circle is nothing but love, respect for the employees in the hearts of the management. An organization with such kind of working atmosphere will be successful in the long-term as well as short-term as this kind of working philosophy will create harmony in the organizationbetween employees and management.

Live in each other’s heart, which is the purest place of divinity.

Thoughts for refreshment of your spirits:

Thoughts on work:You are Krishna and the work is Radha,You are the lover and the work is your love. You are the flower and the fragrance is your work. You are the knowledge and the wisdom is your work. You are Shiv and the Shakti is your work. You are incomplete without work and the work is incomplete without you. (Ardhnarishwar)

Thoughts on Spirituality:When we were born (birth is Brahma) we cried that voice was Saraswati. The time between our birth and death is Vishnu; hence, we require Laxmi (money) right from our birth till our death.

When we will die (death is Shiva) we will be turned into ashes/ earth (Parvati)Hence, Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh are the process of birth, life and death. And Saraswati, Laxmi and Parvati are the means.

Our Lord is one. Brahma (Creator), Vishnu (Sustainer), Mahesh (Destroyer) is the attributes of one Lord. It’s just like three roles played by the same individual.

We all are Spirits, the part of Supreme Spirit.

Page 18: Management ideas ppt

Our True Religion Is Love,Our True Lord Is Love,Our True Guru Is Love,

We All Are The Products Of Love,Our Work Is Love,

Our Ultimate Goal Is Love,But The Real State Is That We Are Full of Ego, Hatred

And Lust, In spite Of The Fact That We Will Be Turned IntoDust.
