Media Language

Media language is based upon the meaning and semiotics.

Through the media texts we have to consider what the connotations and

denotation of an image are.

Connotations – this is what the image may represent or symbolise.

Denotations – this is what the literal meaning of the image is

Within the moving image texts the connotations and denotations can change depending on the way the director choses to angle the camera, props, costumes

and lighting and the way the video is edited.

The meaning of an image would vary person to person and how the person sees the

image. This each because each individual would have different interpretations of the image.

Camera

For my music video a range of shots mean that the audience are able to connect

with the artist as well as allowing the audience to feel what the artist is feeling, the

most common shot in my video will be close up images as this will allow the audience to actually know who the artist is and what is happening in the video.

Close up shots will also show the facial expressions which will link to the lyrics of the

song to help the audience understand what is happening in the video.

Visual progression would also be shown through this use of camera shots. At the start

of the video she will be shown mostly inside at home but by the end of the video she

will mainly outside having fun highlighting the progression of the video.

Editing

When I come to editing my video in premiere I will edit the video so that it fits to the speed and mood of the video. Some of my footage I will speed up. For example as I will have the sunrise at the start of my video I will speed this up so it doesn’t play for ages, this will also make it look a lot more effective in the video and will allow it to fit in with the speed of the song. Another way that I may do this is instead of having it right at the beginning I may have the sun rising throughout the clip and every so often shown the sun rising a bit more. I believe that this may also work well with the song.

I will also change each clip on the beat of the song which would mean that the audience do not get bored of my video. As the song is fast if my clips did not change quickly this may make the video look slow and boring.

I may also add a colour overlay or some of my video which will give the video a better affect. Some of the scenes that are filmed outside in the sun could look effective with a colour over lay making the scene look brighter and more summery.

Mise-en-scene

I believe that the mise-en-scene is a very important aspect of my video as it will allow the

audience to get a better understanding of the video.

The clothing which I have chosen for my artist to wear link to the summery theme of the song. I

have chosen a range of different clothing items where each scene will have my artist in a

different item of clothing, I believe that this will work well and it will keep the audience

engaged in my video as well as meaning that will be fun to watch. It would also catch the

audiences attention and make it clear to them that it is a pop genre music video.

In my video I have a scene which I filmed at night time where I had my artist with sparklers. This

worked well and will give the video a fun look. I also think that this scene is effective as

throughout the video it has all been very bright scenery and locations and the bright sparklers

link to this theme.

My artists hair and makeup was another aspect which I focused on. When filming I ensured

that her makeup was not too heavy but gave a girly look to the audience.

Digipak

Although I am still to make my video, I have filmed and just need to

edit the video together. I believe that this will make my video

effective having talked about what I have in this PowerPoint and

will allow me to.

In addition as I am still yet to conduct my photo-shoot for my

digipak, I want to create a similar idea to my music video with the

bright locations and scenery. I think that this will look effective on

my digipak and would make the audience want to buy and listen

to the song.
