English Language Investigation: Methodology. As already covered, my language investigation for my A2 English Language coursework is to investigate the differences in the ways that male and female reporters flout or support the beliefs of both social stereotypes and the beliefs of theorists when studying the ways that they speak to people they are reporting. The area of journalism/reporting that I shall be studying is football, having been influenced by the recent sporting event of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. It is a common misconception that men know more about football than women, regardless of whether or not the person works in and around the sport. It is wrong to render women as “Clueless” when it comes to sport, because there are sports that women tend to follow more than men. However, football is primarily a “Man’s Sport”, hence the stereotypical beliefs that make women seem as if they have a lack of knowledge when it comes to football. But it is the history of sport itself, and its male dominance that has made me so interested in producing this investigation. Below is my method that I shall be using to conduct and carry out my language investigation. Method: . Firstly, I will begin by finding two interviews that are being presented by two reporters (One male and one female). . After finding suitable interviews which I feel could lead to a topic discussion, I will transcribe them, so that I have a tangible copy of what was said during the interview, meaning that I can then highlight different areas of interest.

Method:

. Firstly, I will begin by finding two interviews that are being presented by two reporters (One male and one female).

. After finding suitable interviews which I feel could lead to a topic discussion, I will transcribe them, so that I have a tangible copy of what was said during the interview, meaning that I can then highlight different areas of interest.

. Once I have transcribed both interviews, I will then research into different theories, as well as conduct some research in order to find out the beliefs and opinions from both men and women that could give some indication as to how they feel about the idea of men knowing more about football than women.

. I will speak about each of the interviews separately and take into consideration, whether or not they flout or support beliefs and theories of the general public and gender specific theorists.

. I will also use the information that I have gained from friends and family to create graphs that can eventually give an indication as to whether or not the thoughts and stereotypes of men and women in sport is true or justifiable.

. I will then conclude my investigation, by informing the examiners on whether or not the beliefs and theories of others are actually accurate when looking at the language used by both the male and female reporters.
