SCHOOL CULTUREThe school as a learning community is a part of aculturally diverse and changing society in which thelocal and global overlap. Different identities,languages, religions and beliefs, coexist and interactwith each other. School exploits the countrys owncultural heritage as well as the cultural and linguisticdiversity of the community around it. One of the manifestations of cultural diversity ismultilingualism. CROSS-CURRICULAR LEARNING The goal of cross-curricular or phenomenon-based learning is tohelp students understand the relations and interdependenciesbetween the issues studied in different school subjects to beable to study the real world phenomena and look at them fromdifferent perspectives or as entities. LANGUAGE EDUCATION Students language skills start to develop in early childhood and itgoes on as a life-long process. Multilingual competence developsat hoem, schools and free-time Language instruction at schoolis based on using language in different situations. It strengthensstudents language awereness and the parallel use of differentlanguages. Student learns to detect texts in different languagesand different ways of interaction, to use linguistic terminology andconcepts in the interpratation of texts and make use of differentways of learning languages. Student uses his knowledge of different languages to enhanceher/his learning in general. BILINGUAL INSTRUCTION The goal of bilingual instruction is to achieve good andvaried language skills in the schools language ofinstruction and in the target language. The long-term goal of bilingual instruction is to create afoundation for life-long language learning andappreciation of linguistic and cultural diversity.
