Headline- This is bold headline to stand out to the readers and doesn’t give away to much of the news article encouraging people to read more.

Newspaper title which stands out in bold and is recognisable to the local people.

Advertisements encouraging people to get a half price hair style.

Fillers to fill the blank spaces.

Coloured pictures.Small amount of columned text.

Large bold statistics to inform readers.

Informing the audience of the upcoming sporting adverts.

Telling readers to scroll through the newspaper towards the end which makes them stop at previous pages which appeal to them.

Questioning the audience to get them involved In the newspaper.

A box around the text.

Caption which is providing descriptive information about a photo.

This is a cut-out because here the background has been blurred out leaving only the main subject.

A filler to cover the blank spaces on the page.

Headline.

The font of the text is one size.

Strapline- This is a sentence written next to the main headline however is in small font to catch the readers eye.

Masthead- This is placed at the top of the newspaper and provides the newspapers title as well as the date and place it was published.

Plug/puff- This sometimes occurs in a newspaper article and is intended to be flattering and make the reader have a positive opinion then on this person or company.

Main cover image- This is normally linked to the main headline on the page. It is often in the centre of the newspaper to grab the readers attention as well as bright colours to draw them in.

Filler due to it filling up a small space on the page.

Broadsheet- A full sized newspaper.

Byline- the reporters name at the beginning of a story.

A caption which is a block of descriptive text about an image.

Flag- The name of the newspaper.

Leg-Column of text.

Jump line-This is placed near the story headline to inform the readers which page or column to go to if they would like to continue reading the newspaper article.

Masthead- This is placed at the top of the newspaper and provides the newspapers title as well as the date and place it was published.

Ears- This is a bit like a filler which allows space on the newspapers front page for things like advertisement, other pages to turn to and coupons.

Headline- Typically in large font to increase the readers focus and make it look graphic to encourage them to continue reading.

Fillers- To prevent white, blank spaces which may make the newspaper look unfinished and empty.

The majority of the stories on the front page don’t have any text. The readers are told which page to go to which is called ears to continue reading the story.

Individual advertisements.

Plug/puff which intends to make the newspaper look positive and encouraging to read. This then gives the newspaper company a good image. Statistics with the usual bold

colours are often used on the front page of a newspaper if not the front page as the newspaper producers want to catch the readers eye and the statistic is usually a fact which interests the majority of people. Specifically home owners or people who follow politics as a shocking statistic influences people to continue reading.

Here the background has been blurred out which is called a cut as it is done to make the readers main focus the person or the object rather than the background.

Logo.

Strapline

The main image is normally related to the biggest story so takes up the most room on the front page of a newspaper.

Advertisements/ Banner ad- imply that the newspaper is aimed at adults who are home owners rather than teenagers or the elderly.

Caption which is describing to the readers what is being shown in the image.

This is a flag as the name of the newspaper continues on the first page.

Font- typically all of the writing is the same size other than the headlines.

Lowercase text

Statistics

The weight of the text here is heavy than the rest of the text on the first page which implies it is the main story and includes the bold font to stand out to the readers.

Border- you can clearly see that on the front page of this newspaper there has been a border put around the outside so that the text, images and advertisements align, white space is then left around the outside of the border however it looks neater which makes the readers more likely to read it.

Variety of stories so that it covers wide interests of readers and at least one of them is guaranteed to catch their eye.

Byline which is showing the article producers name.

Folio-Newspaper company's contact details which are typically at the top of a page which allows people to get in contact with them if they would like to share a story or advertise possibly their products. The newspaper can then make money and promote a company's brand.

Strapline.

This is an ear as it is using up space like a filler and advertising free tickets in addition to this.

Column logo- This is a story with the writers photo next to it and their name.

Informing the readers how they can place an advert.

Intent- Column is narrower so logos and images can be accommodated.

Initial cap- A large capital letter at the beginning of a paragraph.

Jump- A story is being continued on another page.

Informing the readers of the weather around the UK.

Encouraging and advertising the readers to by the local newspaper frequently as it is available everyday and why they should buy it.
