Permanent and growing activity (spending by global oil and gas companies increasing by 5% or so every year)

Energy demand will double from now to 2050

Access to reserves pushes new frontiers: arctic

A lack of engineers

An increasingly competitive market

Not a cool or new business industry – an old chap’s industry. Experience is paramount.

Engineering and Projects: Industry, players, jobs and careers The execution of a Project: the key features

Time pressure

High financial stake

Each project is a unique: technical content, project team, parties involved

There are well known methods but one needs to think out of the box to anticipate what will be the show stopper – ever different

The challenge is not technical but to coordinate all parties involved

Engineering and Projects: Industry, players, jobs and careers The jobs: common features

No routine

Concrete: one sees results

Teamwork

Work in a small team, even within a large company

Life long learning

No research/science: must deliver – time pressure – apply known rules

International, multi-cultural

Both technical and commercial sides

Entrepreneurial, decisiveness and ”doer” capabilityies are key
