competitive advantage to a business however it will be expensive to implement.

▌ The two forms of technology will be discussed in this presentation and how they contribute to improve operations processes.

Leading-Edge TechnologyDefine Leading-edge technology is the technology that is the most

advanced or innovative at any point in time.

Describe Leading-edge technology can help businesses to;

1. create more products quickly and to higher standards2. reduce waste3. operate effectively

Explain Leading-edge technology will enable operations mangers to distinguish their operations processes by utilising the best available technologies. As a result, businesses will be able to make products more quickly and to a higher standard. This will also help a business operate more effectively.

Leading-Edge TechnologyAnalyse Leading-edge technology has more positive aspects than negative

aspects. Having technology that is most advanced will benefit a business and as a outcome, a business will gain a competitive advantage. Leading-edge technology can change markets when innovative inputs are created and new products are made. The only downside of having leading-edge technology is that is high costed.

Link A example of a leading-edge technology is 3D printers. These printers undergo a process that creates three dimensional solid objects from a digital file. Many businesses such as Nike, Ford and American Pearl use 3D printers to create components of their products.

Established Technology Define Established technology is the technology that have been

developed and widely used, and is simply accepted without question.

Describe Established technology include the use of computers and various other software packages in managing business operations and functions.

Analyse Established technology is free from risks. Like leading-edge technologies, established technology has less negative aspects. Established technology are functionally sound and help establish standards for productivity and speed. As a result to this characteristics, they are widely used and accepted.

Link Examples of established technologies are barcoding and point of scale [POS] data for inventory management. They are widely used in the retail industry. Woolworths Limited use these technologies.

over other technological advancements. This is due to its unique and high quality features.

Competition over technology between Apple and Samsung have significantly increased.

“Apple has a competitive edge” In a court case over patent infringement, Apple was

awarded over $1 billion.

Psssttt! Patent infringement =  a legal finding that a product or service has violated the rights afforded by a patent covering all or parts of the product or service.

In August 2012, a jury decided that Samsung looked upon Apple’s devices, software icons and general features to design their own technology.
