PHONE HACKING SCANDAL

By Jessica Grundy

INTRODUCTION

The topic I am looking at is the phone hacking

scandal by the newspaper company News Of The

World. I disagree with the issue described as it

effected celebrities and non- celebrities personal

lives. It also went against their human rights such as

privacy.

WHO WAS INVOLVED?

Senior editors

News Of The World manager Rupert Murdoch.

Rebekah Brooks

Andy Coulson Stuart Kuttner

In July 2011, Murdoch faced allegations that his companies, including the News of the World, owned by News Corporation, had been regularly hacking the phones of celebrities, royalty and public citizens. He faces police and government investigations into bribery and corruption by the British government and FBI investigations in the US.

BEFORE THE HACKING

The events of the News of the World, The Sun and The Times

took over the UK news agenda for several weeks. The impact

of the revelations concerning phone-hacking at a time when

news corporation (the parent organisation) was bidding to

acquire the rest of BskyB led to the explosive public debate

about the name of the relationships between the media, the

police and the government itself. The long-term effects of

these events on the Murdoch empire still rumble on.
