Video Podcasting: When, Where and How it’s Currently used for Instruction

byAbbie Brown, Ph.D. and Timothy D. Green, Ph.D.

On the Podcasting family, we have Video Podcasting, or also known as “Vodcasting.”

This type of technology is being used in Education to help students on their studies by receiving supplemental multimodal presentation, especially while trying to teach difficult concepts.

Vodcasting is very useful, but still very new. Nowadays, Educators can find vodcast , and make them available to their selves by the Education Podcast Network and Apple’s iTunes.

People could think that Vodcasting is the same

than watching TV. The concept is the same but the

difference is that a TV cannot be taken everywhere,

anytime. With Vodcasts we can download the file

into our IPODS, and watch it anywhere, anytime.

All this information is very interesting, but how can we start vodcasting?

This is what you need to do:• Create a video file.• Upload the video file to a server.• Write down the location of the video in a XML file, so people

can look up your video on iTunes.

Conclusion of the article

This type of technology has changed

education for better.

Now, students and teachers can share information easily, and learn on the way.

There are no more excuses about time. We can learn on our way to work, lunch, etc.

Globalizing Education One Podcast at a Timeby Jeff Curto

In this article, the author explains his experience with Podcasting.

Curto is a professor of “History of Photography,” and in the semester of Fall 2005, he decided to post cast his classes so other people around the world can learn at the same time than the students did in the “live class.”

Students around the world used their iPods to see the class that has being recorded in the “live class,” then they sent emails to Curto, so they were able to participate in the class discussion. This way of teaching helps people to share education, and different views.

Curto used a software named “ProfCast” to make the podcast , and it takes him about 30 minutes a week to finish and upload the podcast in the web.

Conclusion of the article

This type of technology can open doors to education around the world.

Furthermore, the benefit is not only for students that don’t come to the physical class, but its also for the students who participate in the classroom activity because they receive feedback from people of different cultures and different views.

Enhancing Food-Safety Education through Shared Teaching Resources

by Jeannette McDonald

“This article describes an integrative collaborative approach for the creation and dissemination of engaging food-safety teaching resources for veterinary faculty”p207.

“The purpose of the project is to create materials that teach students food safety from farm to fork, and it offers teachers clinically relevant teaching resources that are difficult to create or locate”p207.

Different university around the country put together a new methodology through podcasting to provide the students and teachers of the veterinary area with a better way of teaching.

This program makes the class more interactive, and a lot more beneficial for the students.

Conclusion of the article

This project still being developed, but the outcomes of what is already done have been very beneficial for everyone who has used it.

Hopefully with this new approach, there will be a better job done while teaching Food-Safety.

Final Conclusion

What the three articles have in common is that they all use Podcasting in Education.

Video podcasting is getting very practical for a lot of teachers to use it to help students to understand, and learn difficult concepts on the way.

Teachers from classes like Photography to Food-Safety are seeing how beneficial this new technology is.

I hope more people takes advantage of this tool, that is easy, economical to use, and very helpful.
