Question 7 - Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the

progression from it to the full product?

Looking back on my preliminary task I have noticed the progress I have made throughout the production process. I learnt how to use professional software such as Photoshop and Prezi to make my work seem more of a professional standard. I researched music magazines in a lot more detail compared to my prelim task; this helped when producing my own as I was able to include common features and conventions on my front cover making it more aesthetically similar to a magazine that would be sold in shops. I think that my main task front cover is of much higher quality compared to my prelim front cover. This may have been down to the research, planning or use of more technical programmes.

For my planning I created documents like flat plans to allow myself to be organised and prepared whilst producing my music magazine.

I have also discovered many different conventions that music magazines use to make their contents pages familiar to the reader. Within my own magazine I have tried to replicate some of these features and conventions. Compared to my prelim contents page, I think my main magazine contents page shows progress I have made and new skills I have leant. The images on my contents demonstrate the skills I have learnt on Photoshop, whereas my images in my prelim magazine are simple and hardly edited.

Q Contents

• Here are two cut outs of my magazine and Q magazine. As you can see I have tried to replicate Q’s style and layout with the red lines separating text. I think this is a good feature as it makes it easier for the reader to understand but it also keeps a colour scheme running through the magazine.

• With my double-page spread I focused on Vibe magazine and the layout they use. I liked the idea of a whole page as an image and text on the other, so I replicated this in my own work. Also the large drop cap behind the text caught my eye so I decided to again replicate this feature in my own magazine.Vibe DPS

Grhyme DPS All of these conventions are used to make my magazine seem and look more professional. I didn’t have many professional magazines to focus on whilst making my prelim task which is why my main task is of a better standard.

Overall, I believe I have progressed immensely from my prelim task to my main task. I have realised what features and conventions look good and which ones don’t. Also, my skills in programmes such as Photoshop have developed greatly which has lead to the improvements in my production work.
