Question 4/5: Who would be the audience for your media product? And how did you attract/address your audience?

Originally the target audience for superhero films was children due to the bright colours,

cheesy catch phrases and basic right and wrong story lines.

The superhero genre has many sub genres of which mine is one. Due to the dark nature of my film this will affect target audience as it will only appeal to a certain age group, type of person and gender.

Target Audience

- My target audience age was between the ages of 14 and 25- The film was aimed to appeal more to males

An example of the type of person who would be interested in this type of film would look like so. This representation i have drawn is a stereotype of a teenage male.

Hoodie that shows that the person is lazy and enjoys the easy rode in life

Tracksuit bottoms which shows comfortably is preferred over style.

This person would have probably heard about the film through social networking sights. He watches films through interent streaming as it is much more convenient than hard copies and he has a good knowledge of the internet.

Likes

• Using the internet and watching films from sites such as Netflix for easy access.

• Special effects in films because it is interesting to see

• Easy to follow storylines as complication deters this person from watching a film.

• A full on experience as it is exciting

• Playing video games as they provide a similar entertainment with graphics as they contain similar special effects.

• Watching films and listning to music he watches that his social group does as he cares about his social groups opinions. Also discussing them and being able to relate to the social group through the same likes and dislikes.

Dislikes

• Complicated plots to movies

• Not having access to the internet to use social networks and stream movies or games

• Listening to easy going music

• Searching for films (advertisement on social networks is the main source of finding films to watch)

• Doing school work, so a film is a good escape and source of procrastination.

Attracting an audience

A small trick I used to attract an audience on YouTube was to put the most striking shot I have in the film as the thumbnail (the cover of the video), this would attract attention to the video when potential viewers are browsing through. This can be applied to cover art or posters for films in the industry as if the film looks interesting to the viewer from the start then it is more likely to be watched.

Audience feedback

Positives the audience pointed out

Luckily the feedback was from my target audience

• My use of special effects was the main like of my film which showed that my target audience was mainly attracted by what I expected them to be.

• The story gripped the audience and kept them interested which is what I aimed to do.

Areas of improvement

• The voiceover was hard to understand – this needs to be addressed as the target audience wants to have an easy viewing of the film so the storyline can be followed and enjoyed to the full.

• The beginning speech dragged on too long which lost audience attention

• More movement in general needs to be added to grab audiences attention straight away to get them hooked into the film.
