DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

There are various forms of digital technology which has developed rapidly over the past 20 years such as the internet, computers, various cameras, social media and so much more.

I have used digital technology when producing my AS coursework as during the pre-production, I had to use a cannon 550d camera to take the pictures which would be featured in my magazine that I produced. Another way in which I have used digital technology is through the software that I used on the computer during the process of post production. Some examples of how I used this software are:

• Editing photos on Photoshop

• Constructing the magazine on InDesign

• Filming the process of making various things with the on screen cam recorder

CREATIVITY

Creativity is the use of imagination or original ideas to create something. I found that when producing my AS coursework you had to try and be creative and produce new ideas as you want it to be original and different to those in your class. Ways in which I have been creative when constructing my AS coursework are:

• Taking the photos for the magazine (on shoot and on location)

• Picking a colour scheme which went well with the genre of music featured in the magazine

• Producing a twitter page as an extra part of my double page spread

• Linking a QR code to the promotional blog for the artist who was featured in the magazine

RESEARCH AND PLANNING

Research is the systematic investigation into and study of material and sources in order to establish facts and reach new conclusions. In order to produce my coursework and for there being a chance of it being successful, it was a good idea for me to research into other successful music magazines currently on the market. Other forms of research I carried out were:

• The key conventions of a magazine

• Analysis of various front covers, contents pages and double page spreads

Planning is the process of producing an idea as to which you wish to follow. When planning my coursework, I produced what is known as a scaffold on InDesign so I could get a feel as to what I wanted my magazine to look like, this also made the post production of my magazine easier as I could just paste each picture or piece of text in to readily placed boxes

POST PRODUCTION

Post production is the work done to for example a film or recording prior to the film has taken place. Post production played a massive part in the process of making my magazine. In terms of my coursework, post production occurred after I had taken the pictures. The stages that followed this were:

• Editing photos

• Putting in text

• Adding photos to the various pages

• Adding sell lines

• And more

USING CONVENTIONS FROM REAL WORLD TEXTSA convention is a rule , method or practice established by

usage. I have used conventions from real world texts in my AS media coursework through the simple things such as:

Codes and conventions

I have used codes and conventions in the pre-production and post-production of my piece of coursework as prior to making my magazine, during the research and planning stages, I looked at other magazines and analysed the key features that existed such as the masthead, full bleed image and the sell lines. Down below is how I applied these conventions to my piece of coursework.
