Corporations are identified by a STOCK SYMBOL when referenced on trading exchanges

SYMBOLS range from one to five letters long

Each of you will be assigned a corporation to research by drawing a slip from a box.

Every student will be getting a unique business. No 2 students will get the same corporation to research

Write the symbol you drew from the box in the “Corporate Symbol” space on the questionnaire you are given

Return the slip you drew to your teacher. (Not the box)

This stock symbol is for Wal-Mart, but you may not know your corporation until you do your search.

Make sure you include the word “stock” with your corporations symbol. You are not interested in going to Wal-Mart’s online shopping website.

You want to know about their stock.

Use an online search engine to get information you need about a companies stock. GOOGLE is great!

Your search will return multiple web pages where you can find

information. You might have to visit several pages to find all the information you need. (Click on

one to see what you find)

The official name of this corporation is: Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.

Notice that this is in millions so it translates to 3,291,000,000. shares outstanding

Notice that these shares of stock have voting rights. That means that they are classified as common stock.

Shares Outstanding is how many shares of this stock are actually sold right now.

Corporations share their profits with their owner/stockholders by paying a dividend

Draw a non-profit from the box. Each student will have a different non-profit to research.

Write the web address of your non-profit organization on the “Web Address” section of your questionnaire.

Return the slip you drew to your teacher, not to the box
