In today’s fast and dynamic business world, none of us can refute the
importance of effective Organizational Internal Communication, where it can
have opaque effects on the growth, efficiency and deliverables of the
organization.
Internal communication is directly derived from the organizational culture and
its structure. For example, if the culture is typically bureaucratic and everyone
is burdened with the chain of command then the result of the internal
communication ends up like the results of the well legendary game “The
Chinese Whisper”. Nevertheless, a bureaucratic culture involves intensive
documentations like minutes of the meeting, memos and much more that is
devastating for the process efficiency.
In most of the cases, the following variables can be a barrier for effective and
efficient Internal Communication:
1. Ooh that was not the requirement “I Misunderstood”
In most of the cases the understanding of the subject matter and its objective is
not clear to the top management and decision makers. That is why when the
results are presented to them they realize that they have been misunderstood
or the objective of the subject matter is entirely different from the need of the
organization, hence they cannot achieve the desired results because it’s too
late by then. The leadership is not left with any option but to spend more
money to fix the problem and screw up the management.
“The research shows that only 37% of employees have a clear understanding
of what their organization is trying to do and why.”

2. It was not Properly Described
When deliverables are presented to the top management or your manager, you must
have heard comments from them such as, ‘Why don’t you understand my mind?’ ‘This is not
what I required?’ ‘This is entirely different from what I was thinking?’ ‘Why don’t you get my
mind?’ and so on…. It is because they have not communicated the objective (their thoughts)
properly and you have not asked appropriately. Get a clear picture from the manager or the
top management before starting any work, confirm re-confirm and then confirm. Open
communication between you and your manager or top management can ensure high quality
deliverables within specified timelines.
3. It was not My Duty
If the activities and tasks are not planned according to the proper directions and directives of
the milestone and furthermore it is not properly communicated to the team, it can result in
blame games, low quality and compromised deliverables, rework and increased costs. Right
after defining a clear objective the activities should be properly planned and the tasks should
be assigned accordingly after having a detail meeting.
4. Communication Skills
If you cannot express and make the other person understand of what you are saying, you
cannot accomplish success in your life. Without realizing the fact of communication many
professionals offend others without having any intention of doing it. Your gestures, words and
expressions can really make your life easier.
Others reasons for lack of communication can be Interpersonal Skills, Personal Value
System & Personal Image, Technological Understanding, Trust on the
individual, Generation Gap, Jargons, There's data and there's information and there is no
clear direction, Feedback and Suggestions
