They can be used to:

• Cut grooves, housings and rebates

• Cut sockets and mortises (though with rounded corners)

• Profile the face or edge of a workpiece (mouldings)

• Cut circles in timber

• Shape timber to a desired curve or angle

• Trim the face of a workpiece flush
