SITTING IN GROUPS
Depending on the students’ attainment level, they are placed in groups that vary from one class to another. I think this is a good idea as it gives them the chance to interact with different people, help each other and progress according to their command on the subject.
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT
Different ways to easily show behaviour, attitude, participation. However, it is essential that it is done in a consistent way, that is, not issuing empty warnings, enforcing rules and making sure there is some kind of consequence.POSITIVE REWARDS: every day, two well behaved and hard working students are picked to choose a card with a positive reward. It can be something like using the teacher’s chair, sending a positive note home, choosing a partner to sit next to for a day, etc. It serves its purpose by praising and being positive rather than giving only warnings and grounding students.
BEADS IN A JAR: your perfect 10
STARTER OF THE DAY
Every day, at the beginning of each class, students are presented with a starter activity to help them settle down and to review concepts from the previous session. Here are some examples of websites including starters of the day:Maths: www.transum.org Language: https://literacystarter.wordpress.com/Miscellaneous: http://www.keystage2literacy.co.uk/early-morning-work.html
CHALLENGING ADVANCED STUDENTS
A TASK FOR EVERYONE A CHALLENGING TASK
All students are presented with certain activities. However, those who are fast learners, are on a different level and finish quickly can move on to take the CHALLENGE! that is always ready for them.
SPELLINGThe teacher makes a dictation including 10 words which are essential for the students to learn before KS1SATS or KS2SATS.
1. Apartment2. Conspicuos3. Febuary4. Opportunity5. …
1. 2. Conspicuous3. February4. 5. …
This is a very visual way for the students to notice which words they have to study harder and learn to spell afterwards.I think this will be very useful to me to practice with irregular verb lists.
L.O. and REFLECTING on learning
At the very beginning, the teacher writes a brief L.O. on the board, which students copy in their notebooks. At the end of the session, there is always time to reflect on what’s been done and how much the children actually learnt.
