- Learn to create chats to record your students discussions; - Add wikis to help your students work collaboratively ; - Teach your students how to edit and save onto wikis.

1- Adding a Chat

These are the drop down menus used for adding material. In this intermediate tutorial we'll look at

these activities:

Chat

Clicking on "Chat" allows you to enter a feature where students can

discuss/work together in real time in or out of class and perhaps receive

feedback from the teacher

This is the window that opens...

Give the chatroom a name which

explains its theme

Write instruction to the students on

how to use the chatroom (what to write about/not to write about, how you will correct

them, etc.) Then scroll down and click "save and return to course". The resource will appear on the

course page.

Clicking on "Wiki" allows you to enter a feature where students can work together in real time or at their leisure on a collective document, set by the

teacher.

Wiki

Give the wiki a name explains its theme

Write instruction to the students on how to use the wiki (e.g.

editing protocol such as "do not

delete work without

consultation", "always leave your name on

work" etc.,Then scroll down and click 'save and return to

course'. The resource will appear on the course page

Click on the wiki in the course page The page opens with your instructions.

Students scroll down to find the wiki...

Note the "edit" button, we may

need it in a second...

...the wiki appears as below. The student should then click on "edit" to see if any work

has been entered"...

The students can then:• read uploaded material, • add to it, • then click "save" at the bottom to add his/her contribution...

...and see the updated wiki, as above.

Ask for your IT champion to arrange to have your students e-enrolled on the STC Live course, and you're ready to start using chats and wikis as well as support material, ( activities during sessions, homework, for student socialisation, as a revision

archive and much more...)
