The current styles were founded in the revolution during the late 18th century that sharply changed the elaborately embroidered and jeweled formal clothing into the simpler clothing of the British Regency period, which gradually evolved to the stark formality of the Victorian era. It was in the search for more comfort that the loosening of rules gave rise in the late 19th century to the modern lounge suit.

FabricSuits are made in a variety of fabrics, but most commonly from wool. The two main yarns produce worsteds (where the fibres are combed before spinning to produce a smooth, hard wearing cloth) and woollens (where they are not, thus remaining comparatively fluffy in texture). These can be woven in a number of ways producing flannel, tweed, gabardine, and fresco among others. These fabrics all have different weights and feel, and some fabrics have an S (or Super S) number describing the fineness of the fibres measured by average fibre diameter, e.g., Super 120; however, the finer the fabric, the more delicate and thus less likely to be long-wearing it will be.

Although wool has traditionally been associated with warm, bulky clothing meant for warding off cold weather, advances in making finer and finer fiber have made wool suits acceptable for warmer weather, as fabrics have accordingly become lighter and more supple. Wool fabric is denominated by the weight of a one-square yard piece; thus, the heavier wools, suitable for winter only, are 12-14 oz.; the medium, "three season" (i.e., excluding summer) are 10-11 oz.; and summer wools are 7-8 oz. (In the days before central heating, heavier wools such as 16 oz. were used in suits; now they are used mainly in overcoats and topcoats.) Other materials are used sometimes, either alone or blended with wool, such as cashmere.Silk alone or blended with wool is sometimes used. Synthetic materials, while cheaper, e.g., polyester, are very rarely recommended by experts. At most, a blend of predominantly wool may be acceptable to obtain the main benefit of synthetics, namely resistance to wrinkling, particularly in garments used for travel; however, any synthetic, blended or otherwise, will always be warmer and clammier than wool alone. For hot weather, linen is also used, and in (Southern) North America cotton seersucker is worn.

Most modern suits are made of wool. It’s the most versatile fabric, the best in comfort, wrinkle-resistant, and has greater longevity than most. Another characteristic that makes wool an ideal suit fabric is its ability to absorb moisture, thus, even when you’re forced to sport a suit on the hottest of days, it’ll keep you cool. The most common types of wool suits are merino, cashmere and angora.

Best season: All year long

Flannel isn’t quite as popular as it used to be because it’s a heavy fabric that doesn’t breathe much, which means that you’ll be toasty warm in any climate. Its wear has also declined because the fabric begins to peel over time.

Cotton is a durable fabric found in most American men's suits; it doesn’t quite fit European's fancy. Like wool, cotton can absorb sweat (important for controlling body odor) and keep you cool throughout most months. As a huge bonus, the fabric is quite practical and easy to maintain since it’s machine-washable.Best season: Spring, summer and fall

Linen may look cool while on a tropical vacation, but it has many drawbacks that don’t necessarily fit into the modern man’s day-to-day life. A linen suit is lightweight and will keep you very cool in the warmer months; but, its downfall is that it creases very easily

Poly viscose is a rayon fabric made from cellulose ester (obtained by treating cellulose with caustic soda). Viscose fabrics have a silky to matte luster with a elegant flowing drape. The natural effect of the colours gives them an attractive look

Jute is the most environment-friendly fiber starting from the seed to expired fiber, as the expired fibers can be recycled more than once. Jute as a fabric material is becoming increasingly popular. Jute is also used to make ghillie suits, which are used as camouflage and resemble grasses or brush.

Different shade jute Bandhgala suit is fashioned with collar, buttons and pockets. Beads, and crystals embellished patterns and motif on the collar and chest add essence to the attire. Comes with matching suit and bottom.

Suit Color:There are a few staple colours found in almost every man's wardrobe. These are the colours used primarily for business suits. Every man's wardrobe should be built off a selection of dark suits, as that they are appropriate in almost any circumstance. Which colours depends on the preference of the wearer, but the vast majority of men would do well to own one of each of the foundation colours - charcoal grey, navy blue and black. Ties should always be darker than the wearer's shirt and suits. The background colour of the tie should not be the same as that of the shirt, while the foreground of the tie should contain the colour of the shirt and thereby "pick up" on the colour of the shirt. Ideally, the tie should also integrate the colour of the suit in the same way.

For very special occasions like gala or charity events, black-tie or white-tie dinners you'll need to venture away from traditional workplace suit colours into dinner suits and tuxedos. Such occasions however, generally impose strict dress codes and standards such that the suit is made from black or dark navy blue (often called midnight blue). The only very special event that breaks the colour rule is your own wedding. You can pretty much choose any colour you wish for your wedding suit, and it's not uncommon for wedding suits to be made in sky blue, greens and even reds. Occasions like the races, garden weddings and daytime social events call for different coloured suits.
