INTRODUCTION

‘Al-MULK’ means ‘The Sovernity’, ‘Control’; literal meaning is ‘The Kingdom’.

The name of this Surah refers to Malik al Mulk ( مالك one of the 99 names of Allah, 'The Owner of All ,(الملكSovereignty', literally ‘King of the Realm',

67th Surah in the Quran Comprises of 30 Ayahs The period of revelation could not be known through any

sahih adaith however its subject matter and the style indicate that it is one of the earliest Surahs to be revealed at Makkah.

IN A NUTSHELL

This Surah preaches the infinite power of Allah and states that those who reject warnings of the Prophets will be ‘companions of the Blazing Fire’, meaning they will be punished in HELL.

It deals with principal articles of faith, including divinity, prophethood and resurrection.

This Surah opens with the theme of mankind being in a position of examination, for the obedient to be discerned from the disobedient.

THEME AND SUBJECT MATTER

In this surah, on the one hand, the teachings of Islam have been introduced briefly, and, on the other, the people living in heedlessness have been aroused from their slumber in a most effective way. A characteristic of the earliest surahs of the Makkan period is that they present the entire teachings of Islam and the object of the Holy Prophet's mission, not in detail, but briefly, so that they are assimilated by the people easily. Moreover, they are particularly directed to make the people shun heedlessness, to make them think, and to arouse their dormant conscience.

IMPORTANCE

Verily, there is a chapter in the Qur'an which contains thirty Ayat that will intercede on behalf of its narrator until he is forgiven. (It is): (Blessed be He in Whose Hand is the dominion.). [Tirimdhi, Abi Dawood, Ibn-e-Maja, Masnad-e-Ahmad, 299/2, 321]

There is a chapter of the Qur'an that will argue on behalf of its narrator until it causes him to enter into Paradise. (It is): (Blessed be He in Whose Hand is the dominion.) [Majma'3 Al-Zwaed, 172/7]

The Prophet (sm) said, ‘Surah al Mulk is the protector from the torment of the grave’[Sahihul Jamiea 1/680, Hakim 2/498 & Nasai]

Numerous Ahadith have been narrated over the importance of Surah Al-Mulk here are a few being:

A CLOSER LOOK

Glorification of Allah and mentioning the creation of death, life, the Heavens and the stars

The description of Hell and those who will enter into it

The reward of those who fear their Lord unseen Allah's favor of subjugating the earth to His servants How can you feel secure against the Punishment of

Allah while He is able to seize you however He wills The flight of birds is by the Power of Allah and it is a

proof that He sees everything small and large No one will help you and no one can grant

sustenance except for Allah The parable of the Disbeliever and the Believer

The following topics have been discussed in this Surah:

Page 9: Surah Al Mulk

GLORIFICATION OF ALLAH AND THE CREATION OF DEATH + LIFE

Blessed is He in Whose Hand is the dominion, and He is Able to do all things. (67-1)

He is in control of all big and small things of our lives and our world then we will fear only Him and no one else.

We will not be so much bothered about people’s expectations or standards but our worry will get diverted into one question only:

what does Allah want me to do? How does He want me to live? Why did He give me this cycle of life and death? Who has created death and life, that He may test you

which of you is best in deed. And He is the All-Mighty, the Oft-Forgiving(67-2)

ALLAH’S BLESSINGS

TEST OPTION 1

"Show gratitude to Me and to thy parents: to Me is (thy final) Goal." (31:14)

Page 11: Surah Al Mulk

Seven Heavens

Who has created the seven heavens one above another, you can see no fault in the creations of the Most Beneficent. Then look again: "Can you see any rifts?" 67-3

Skies and see how they are in complete submission to their Creator and Master... The skies exist one above the other in perfect symmetry, with no incongruity or disharmony.

Then look again and yet again, your sight will return to you in a state of humiliation and worn out. 67-4

And as we look at the peaceful sky we should remember that disobeying Allah, who created this magnificent sky, is not a casual thing as we think. If He orders the sky it can send a rain of stones on us; then where will we find shelter?

Page 12: Surah Al Mulk

Stars And Planets

And indeed We have adorned the nearest heaven with lamps, and We have made such lamps (as) missiles to drive away the Shayatin (devils), and have prepared for them the torment of the blazing Fire.. Stars are source for direction for travellors and they beautify the sky t night. As the devils approach the stations of the angels in the lofty skies to eavesdrop, they are stoned with flaming particles from the stars.

Page 13: Surah Al Mulk

BIRDS

THE FLIGHT OF BIRDS IS BY THE POWER OF ALLAH AND IT IS A PROOF THAT HE SEES EVERYTHING SMALL AND LARGE

Do they not see the birds above them, spreading out their wings and folding them in? None upholds them except the Most Beneficent (Allah). Verily, He is the All-Seer of everything.

Flight assists birds while feeding, breeding and avoiding predators.

From Umar ibn Al-Khattab from the Prophet (sas) who said:"If only you relied on Allah a true reliance, He would provide sustenance for you just as He does the birds: They fly out in the morning empty and return in the afternoon with full stomachs."

Page 14: Surah Al Mulk

EARTH

He it is, Who has made the earth subservient to you (i.e. easy for you to walk, to live and to do agriculture on it, etc.), so walk in the path thereof and eat of His provision, and to Him will be the Resurrection.

22:-Is he who walks without seeing on his face, more rightly guided, or he who (sees and) walks on a Straight Way (i.e. Islamic Monotheism). 67-22

We make claims that we have surrendered our lives for Allah. But do we even realize what it is to surrender? Look at the earth... and its submission.

Page 15: Surah Al Mulk

SENSES

Say it is He Who has created you, and endowed you with hearing (ears), seeing (eyes), and hearts. Little thanks you give. 67-23

And whether you keep your talk secret or disclose it, verily, He is the All-Knower of what is in the breasts (of men). 67-13

Should not He Who has created know? And He is the Most Kind and Courteous (to His slaves) All-Aware (of everything). 67-14

Allah gave us all the senses, all the faculties with which we should have recognized him and He gave us such sensitive hearts but what have we done?

In a Hadith Qudsi, Allah says that if His servant tries to come closer to Him, by voluntary good actions, He will love him and if He loves Him, He will become the sight by which he sees, the hearing by which he hears and the hand by which he dares and forces and the legs by which he walks, and if the servant seeks His refuge, He will answer and if he asks Him, He will respond.

Page 16: Surah Al Mulk

BE PATIENT‘Pray for help from God, and (wait) in patience and constancy: for the earth is God's, to give as a heritage to such of His servants as He pleaseth; and the end is (best) for the righteous." (7:128)If you are not thankful of Allah then remember He is able to seize from you however He wills

TEST OPTION 2

DEPRIVATION FROM BLESSINGS

Page 17: Surah Al Mulk

SINKING OF WATER

And Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Tell me! If (all) your water were to be sunk away, who then can supply you with flowing (spring) water?“30

It can result in unusually low river flows, low ground water and reservoir levels, very dry soil, reduced crop yields or even crop failure, and algae blossoms in reservoirs and lakes.

A new study suggests that without water, the body’s physiology will cause the body to involuntarily reduce feeding, leading to dehydration or anorexia. The findings suggest that deprivation is mediated by a sensor located in either the gastrointestinal tract or in the mesenteric veins draining the gut. In the absence of drinking water, signals from this sensor provoke the early termination of a meal.

Page 18: Surah Al Mulk

Approximately 1,000 earthquakes measuring 5.0 and above occur yearly. Earthquakes of the greatest intensity happen about once a year and major earthquakes (7.0-7.9) occur about 18 times a year. Strong earthquakes (6.0-6.9) occur

about 10 times a month and moderate earthquakes (5.0-5.9) happen more than twice daily. Sometimes an earthquake under the ocean can be so severe, it will cause a tsunami,

responsible for far greater damage.

EARTHQUAKEDo you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah), will not cause the earth to sink with you, then behold it shakes (as in an earthquake)? 16

Page 19: Surah Al Mulk

WHIRLWINDOr do you feel secure that He, Who is over the heaven (Allah), will not send against you a violent whirlwind? Then you shall know how (terrible) has been My Warning? 67-17

Whirlwind, revolving mass of air resulting from local atmospheric instability, such as that caused by intense heating of the ground by the sun on a hot summer day. Examples of whirlwinds are water spouts, tornadoes, small whirls of dust or leaves, and the sand whirls of the desert, called dust devils or dust whirls.

Page 20: Surah Al Mulk

PROVISIONS• Who is he that can provide for you if He should

withhold His provision? Nay, but they continue to be in pride, and (they) flee (from the truth). 21

• 963 million people across the world are hungry. • Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-

related causes--one child every five seconds. • Undernourishment negatively affects people’s health,

productivity, sense of hope and overall well-being. A lack of food can stunt growth, slow thinking, sap energy, hinder fetal development and contribute to mental retardation. 1

Page 21: Surah Al Mulk

DAY OF RESURRECTION

They say: "When will this promise (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) come to pass? if you are telling the truth."

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "The knowledge (of its exact time) is with Allah only, and I am only a plain warner.“ 67-26

Page 22: Surah Al Mulk

THE PARABLE OF THE DISBELIEVER AND THE

BELIEVER But when they will see it (the torment on the Day of

Resurrection) approaching, the faces of those who disbelieve will be different (black, sad, and in grieve), and it will be said (to them): "This is (the promise) which you were calling for!" 67-27

Say (O Muhammad SAW): "Tell me! If Allah destroys me, and those with me, or He bestows His Mercy on us, - who can save the disbelievers from a painful torment?" 67-28

Who is he besides the Most Beneficent that can be an army to you to help you? The disbelievers are in nothing but delusion.67-20

Verily! Those who fear their Lord unseen (i.e. they do not see Him, nor His Punishment in the Hereafter, etc.), theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward (i.e. Paradise). 12ar

Say: "He is the Most Beneficent (Allah), in Him we believe, and in Him we put our trust. So you will come to know who is it that is in manifest error." 67-29

Page 23: Surah Al Mulk

THE DESCRIPTION OF HELL AND THOSE WHO WILL

ENTER INTO IT And for those who disbelieve in their Lord (Allah) is the torment of

Hell, and worst indeed is that destination. 6 When they are cast therein, they will hear the (terrible) drawing

in of its breath as it blazes forth. 7 It almost bursts up with fury. Every time a group is cast therein,

its keeper will ask: "Did no warner come to you?" 8 They will say: "Yes indeed; a warner did come to us, but we belied

him and said: 'Allah never sent down anything (of revelation), you are only in great error.'" 9

And they will say: "Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not have been among the dwellers of the blazing Fire!" 10

Then they will confess their sin. So, away with the dwellers of the blazing Fire. 11
