Theme or focus of images

The photographs above are the work of photographer Adrian Dennis who is known for his sports photography along with news and portrait .But is mainly connected to sports ,he takes photos of a large

range of sports including rugby ,football and driving .He has also done photography for the Olympic and Paralympics games as well as other large sports events .Most of his shots are usually done when a person is celebrating there goal or victory but there are a few acceptations just like the one with the car being tipped over .A lot of this photographers work are usually done by taking pictures of people but again there are a few acceptations where he takes cars racing .With the pictures of people he usually makes sure that their full body and face are in the picture this allows them to get all of the emotion that the person is showing us .For example if the person has just won a major victory you can see the joy in his faecal emotion , and if he has just lost you can see the pain in his face. The photographer sometimes takes people of multiple people instead of just one . Most of his photos are not originally planed out they are ones that tend to happen in the heart of the moment this shows that the quality of the image really depends on the position of the athletes on the day so luck has a major part of his work .The lighting of most of his work is usually done by the stadium that the atheist are performing in since most of the events that he take photos for are usually televised the lighting will already be set up for the cameras for TV .The lighting will also differ depending on the time of day and weather.

I shall now look some of the photographs that have been done by this particular photographer .The first one that I shall have a look at is the photo that is second from the top. In this photo we can see a football team ( I can't recognise which one) scoring a goal in a game .We can see five people at the front of the photo three of them are showing joy that they have just scored a goal each of them are looking at the ball wail smiling , the other two are also looking at the ball but their emotions that are given of are the complete opposite they are showing that they are disappointed or annoyed that they could not defend the net . The ball is also in the shot it is in mid air this gives a slight anticipation that will the ball go in the net or not . We can also see net but it is not in focus it is another for us to tell that the shot has been taken behind the net but not focus enough for it to draw our attention . We can see that there is a crowed in the background but they are not in focus so it does not draw are eye but I believe that it is too in focus the crowd should not be in focus at all .The camera is positioned behind the net from behind the wall that splits the athletes from the fans . It has been taken in a crouching position tilted both up and clockwise to give the photo a slight angle .One thing I do not like about this shot is that it has too much of the sky in the shot and a lot of the space looks empty if he positioned it lower I think it would look better.

The next image that I shall have a look at is the third from the top . This is a photograph that was taken in the Paralympics games I believe that this was taken in the hundred meter sprint . In this photo we see a British Paralympics athlete winning a race . In this we can see all of the emotion that are given off by all the competes in the race .For example with the British competitor we can see that he is giving of the emotion of joy and pride. We can see that he is shouting something to the crowd this was probably him cheering at the fact that he has won this race .This photo can also show us the strain that this race has put on all the competitors this shows how much they have tried to get to the point that they have . This photograph does not have match of a background ,the only thing that is used is the rest of the racing track this is in full focus aging just like the last one I don't like that they have the background in focus . When taking this photo the photographer would need to be very fast in order to get the right timing to make the photo look as good as it possibly can . The positioning of the camera has been taken from within the stands the camera has then been tilted downwards at the athletes .

CompositionThe composition of all the shots changes depending on where the photographer is steadied in the stadium . Most of the time he aspires to be in the front around the side of the felid but there are times when he has been in a stand looking down at the athletes .Depending on where he is he will tilt the camera lances ether up or down and occasionally tilt the camera to the side .The photographer will always zoom in on the athletes this is because the shot would be too far away if he did not zoom in from the distend they have . He also to just get the athletes in the photo and try to cut out as much of the crowd as possible .

Techniques used

Page 6: Task 1 sports

Think shutter speeds- I think that the use of shutter speed was thought about during this i think that the shutter speed would be very high since there is a lot of movement but very little motion blear . I think that the shutter speed would be somewhere around the 1/250 to 1/500 depending on what happens on the shot .then aperture would then need to match this so it would need to be F16 or something near this . Then the IOS would be around the 200 to 300 mark .

rule of thirds - The photographer has used the rule of thirds . For example with the pitcher of the Paralympics runners in this one it has two of the runners on the integrating lines .Also with the last picture the footballer is also on the integrating lines this is meant to draw the eyes of the viewers.

depth of field-the depth of field is only slightly out of focus behind the centre image this would have an aperture of something around the F 16 or something near that maybe more near F16 but it would be really hard to be exact

Strengths & WeaknessesStrengths

He is very good at capturing emotion

Good positioning

Weaknesses

I think they put too much focus on the background

There is too much space with nothing in it
