Task 4Target audience appeal
The front cover of this magazine uses
very informal language, this is very
conventional to the target audience as
it is aimed towards a young female
audience. By using an informal type of
language, the audience will understand
the magazine much better and will feel
a lot more involved. Colloquial
language such as ‘OMG!’ show the
informality in the magazine and this is
how they think that young people talk.
‘I’m not body confident’ uses well
structures language, which shows the
sincerity in the story. This is
conventional to the target audience as
it can be relatable to a young, female
audience.
The colour of this magazine is
conventional to the target audience as
the constant use of pink shows femininity
and pink is most young girls favourite
colour, so they are drawn to pick up the
magazine.
The colour of Lady Gaga’s outfit is the
same colour as the strapline and the text
on the cover lines, this is to ensure the
eye is drawn towards her too as she is the
main artist of the magazine. The colour
green is also placed so that everything is
drawn together and it all fits in.
The main image of Lady Gaga is an eye
level shot, this portrays her as a friendly
and caring person, because it’s as though
she is being viewed through the eyes of
the audience. Having an image of the
very well known and loved Aston
Merrygold draws the eye of the target
audience as they would want to read
about him. By having his image takes as a
lower shot, it portrays him as a bigger
and stronger male and makes him loved
by the target audience.
The group image of One direction is taken
from a higher angle to make the boys look
smaller and much more cute and friendly,
which is conventional to the target
audience as it is aimed at a teenage,
female audience so they are more
attracted.
The content of this magazine is what you
can see from the front cover. The
strapline tells the target audience what is
inside and from the front cover you can
see it is cluttered. This is conventional to
the target audience as it shows that there
is a lot inside the magazine and usually a
teenage, female audience wants to find
out more about what is on the front.
The main image on the contents page, is
an image of a magazine, this shows
which page each of the cover line stories
is on. The page is cluttered which shows
that here is lots of information inside the
magazine, this draws the eye of the
reader. The images are mainly eye level
shots, which show all of the features of
each celebrity and the audience see the
celebrities at eye view.
Little shapes are used such as hearts etc.
which is conventional to the target
audience as young teenagers usually
doodle hearts and thing in notebooks
etc. so it makes them much more
interested.
The colours used in this ‘top of the pops’
contents page is very feminine, with the
use of pinks and purples, it is extremely
conventional to the target audience.
The deepest colour purple is used for the
masthead in the primary optical area, this
draws the eye and makes the reader want
to read more.
The colour purple follows the house style
as it is used in every issue of ‘top of the
pops’. The blue writing is used to highlight
any important areas and articles.
The language used in this contents page is
very informal language, this shows it is
aimed towards a young female audience. By
using an informal type of language, the
audience will understand the magazine much
better and will feel a lot more involved.

girls!’ shows how conventional the language
is to the target audience as it I as though
the editors are including them and aiming
their passage’s at them.
The content of this magazine points out the
most important parts. For example, the
arrows are pointing to the biggest headlines
which draws in the young teenage female
audience.
The ‘hey girls’ section, ‘celebs and gossip’,
wins and offers’, ‘all about you’ and ‘we <3
shopping’ are all content that is
conventional to the target audience and
draws them into wanting to read the
magazine.
In this double page spread is very
informal which is conventional to
my target audience (young, female
audience). The headline ‘I’d dress
like Gaga!’ makes the audience feel
more involved and draws the eye to
make them read more.
The content of this double page
spread is different sections
associated with different
images. The images show the
most important people involved
with the information.
The people shown in the content
of the magazine are
conventional to the target
audience as they are all well
known to a young female
audience.
The images on this double page
spread are headshots which show the
audience the celebrities from their
eye view, this is as though they are
seeing them for there own eyes.
The image of Lady Gaga dressed in
red is conventional to the headline
as it says ‘I’d dress like Gaga!’
The image of the queen shows her
laughing, which connotes that the
magazine is a happy, cheerful read.
The colour of this double page
spread is pink and black, which
makes the text stand out being
white. The pink signifies a girlie,
happy, fun magazine which is
conventional to the target
audience.
The colour of Leona Lewis’s top is
the same as the small text which
draws it all in together and makes
it appealing to the reader.
