Why should we improve our attitudes to learning?

• As students in our lessons we must make sure we are being aware of our behaviour which will become a pathway for our success in future education and employment.

• Simple things like having a correct learning kit and participating in your lessons will make it easier for you to achieve the best grades possible.

• Further we as students need to create a good learning environment for ourselves and our peers.

• Making sure you are on time to lessons and not making a distraction for others is the professional conduct we expect from our classmates and so we should make sure we are carrying this out ourselves.

What can you do in the classroom to improve your Attitude to Learning?

What Can We Improve On?• Equipment- You’re more likely to learn

better and concentrate if you start off with all the necessary equipment!

• Punctuality- It’s harder to settle down if you’re late, come early and be ready to learn!

• Stay On Task- Staying on task and having answers ready to report back to the class/teacher makes you remember the information better... it also makes time go quicker if you are in a rush to leave!

What can you do in the classroom to improve your Attitude to Learning?

What Can We Improve On?• Speed/ Pace of the lesson- Having a faster paced lesson not only

makes the lesson far more interesting, but time goes quickly; so get on with the tasks set!

• Focus & Be prepared to Answer All Questions- If you listen carefully you’ll automatically think of an answer to the question… Don’t be put on the spot and have nothing to say! It won’t benefit you or your peers.

• Stop Relying on Teachers for Answers- Teachers won’t be there in the exams, they’re here to help you prepare… Attempt the task and if you can’t do it, ask for help!

How will this prepare us for life after school?

By applying these ideas to our learning it will allow us to become:

• More employable- This is because it will teach us good practices which we can bring into the work place e.g. learning to take instructions and carry out tasks to the best of our ability.

• A better citizen- Applying these ideas in everyday life will enable us to be a better citizen as it will teach us to show respect for each other and to learn to work together.

• Better educated- By improving our behaviour and interaction with staff it will provide an improved learning environment enabling us to fulfil our true potential.

How can you help us? Ban ‘I don’t know’

• Easy to say ‘I don’t know’ • Help achieve our goal of

making them stay on task and being focused

• Make the students think throughout the lesson

• It doesn’t matter if the answer is wrong, just try

• More beneficial to give it a go

I don’t know

Start the lesson with a hook!We would like to have a hook, such as a picture with a question so the students are thinking as soon as they walk in the classroom. The purpose of a hook is so students are interested straight away and so the teacher has all the students full attention. This hook has to be something to do with lesson, so maybe you will find out the answer to the question at the end of the lesson, so you are working toward the question the whole lesson or it can just be a question to grab the students attention and then continue on with lesson.

How can you help us? Make us feedback!

• Ask us to feedback in groups.

• Make every person in a group say at least 1 thing.

• Allow the students to feedback this will allow them to communicate their opinion and build their confidence.
