2. In 1607 Englishmen came to America.
3. They started a town called Jamestown in the Virginia colony.
Jamestown was the first English town in America.
4. The Puritans were another group of people in England who
built towns in Massachusetts.
5. Roger Williams left the Puritans for freedom of religion. He
started the Rhode Island colony in 1636.
6. Anne Hutchinson also left the Puritans of Massachusetts. She
started her own town in Rhode Island.
7. Catholics came to America and started the colony called
Maryland.
8. In 1733, James Oglethorpe started the Georgia colony to help
poor people.
