ARABIC POETRYPoetry is one of the forms through which the Arabic culture is brought out for the world to embrace. If you speak or understand the Arabic language then you can easily relate to the deep richness in culture and beliefs penned by Arabic poets. If you not an Arabic speaker you may still enjoy poetry readings as the language is a beautiful sing song of words.

ARABIC MUSICThe Khalil music uses the traditional drum – Tabl (otherwise known as a goblet drum, chalice drum, doumbek or tarbooka).There is also the Nay a long flute type instrument and the Rababah which resembles a violin also there is the oud.The oud is a traditional instrument from the same musical family as the guitar and is similar to the lute. It is pear shaped and has eleven strings and no frets.

Together with the Khalili traditional music the UAE also includes theBedouin folk music which also uses drums and tambourines in its music.

ARABIC DANCEAyyalah is one of the most familiar war dances where swords (wooden sticks are used these days) are drawn in rhythmic turn and two lines of men form opposite each other while poetry is recited over the music. There is sometimes an adjacent group of women separately dancing in colorful garb.

HENNA OR ARABIC TATOOSArabic henna designs as an important part of Emirati culture.The henna plant has been used since the Bronze Age for dyeing skin, leather, silk, wool and hair. Cultivated commercially in most countries of northern Africa as well as some parts of Asia, this plant has enjoyed a renewed surge of interest, due in part to emigration.

Emirati women often wear henna design to weddings, special occasions or just for fun! The women working in the local schools would often have henna parties and show off their gorgeous designs the next day!

FALCONRY

Falconry became a cultural symbol of the region and the UAE's national emblem and today fifty percent of all falconers come from the Middle East. Arab falconry dates back at least to 3500BC

BEDIOUIN CULTUREThe Bedouin people of the United Arab Emirates have a rich history. They are highly hospitable and follow many traditions! In fact, the Bedouin culture is one of the founding pillars of the UAE society and plays an integral part in the Emirati national identity.The word comes from the Arabic word Badawiyin which means desert dweller.

TRADITIONAL DRESSThe traditional Emirati clothing for a women to wear is an abaya. It's traditionally a very long cloak that covers the majority of your face and body. Most abayas are black in color, mainly because it's considered to be the most socially conservative way to dress for women in the UAE.

The traditional Emirati clothing for men to wear is a kandura it is white in colour . This long robe for men is both comfortable, and one of the most popular styles of clothing for men today.The longer the robe, the higher your status is in UAE society.The kandura is often accompanied with a gutrah, which is a traditional UAE headscarf. The gutrah is held in place with an ornate headband called the agal.
