Dukhan Oil Fields: The BeginningDukhan is a town on theWest Coast of Qatar,
whereall its onshore oil is produced.
Oil was first discovered in 1939 and exported in 1949.

Wells Aplenty!
Wells have been drilled in the Dukhan area since the 40s.
Over 300 wells now exist, not including disused wells that have ceased to function.

Power and Gas StrippingCommissioning of
the Dukhan Power Plant in 1958 enabled new projects.
In 1974 a plant was commissioned to separate associated gas from the crude oil.

Under Pressure!Ageing wells tend to
lose pressure over time.
In 1989 a water injection plant was built to raise well pressures.

Need a Lift?Surplus gas from
North Field in the Gulf was used from 1989 to raise pressures in Dukhan.
The injection of gas into oil reservoirs to raise pressure was called the “Gas Lift Project”

Arab D Condensate ProjectOil is often mixed with
condensates-lighter, saleable hydrocarbons including benzene and pentane.

Offshore Testing in the WestCurrently, all drilling
on the West Coast is onshore.
Analysis of seismic testing should tell us by 2013 whether oil and gas reserves exist offshore of Dukhan.
