Video Techniques and influential

ideas

Video: Rhianna – Only Girl

What I like about the Rihanna video is the edits they have done where they rewind certain actions to add effect. Here it is demonstrated where she throws petals and then we see her bring her hand back in, making sure it’s in time with the beat.

This tinge is a slow motion edit at the

beginning of the video when the track is

just starting. I like the idea of adding the

tinge as if it’s the sun beaming down on

her.

Video: Rhianna – Only Girl

They have used a lot of editing in this video which adds to the effect which I like. I especially this edit shown above, where they vary the slow motion. It starts of with her falling in slow-mo, then goes back to normal speed, and finishes with her landing in slow

motion which really adds a lot of impact.

Video: Nicole Scherzinger – Your

love

I like the idea of adding a

fade effect to introduce

the beginning of the

video, it adds mystery

and eases you in.

Lighting is used frequently in this video which is really interesting in my opinion, and they frequently use fast paced edits going from varied locations which looks really effective for the end product.

Video: Nicole Scherzinger – Your

love

This edit they have included is really effective and really kept me interested in the video as there was lot going on at this point. They included a different sequence in between another one as show above, so as she was pushing herself up they put a fire dancing shot in and it broke it up a bit, bringing a bit more excitement.

Video: Cheryl Cole – Crazy

Stupid Love

I love this close up show with a tinge and think the use of a wind machine is also good as shown in this shot which is used throughout the video.

There is a really fast edit in the middle of the video which I really like and would want to use in my video that I make.

Video: Cheryl Cole – Crazy

Stupid Love

As you can see in shot 2, it is more zoomed in that shot 1due to zoom edit they did in time to the beat. This was really interesting in the music video and it is something I really like in order to add effect and keep it interesting.

Video: Jessie J, Ariana Grande

and Nicki Minaj – Bang Bang

There are lots of low angle shots in this music video at

the very start which I like to introduce the scene or the

actual video.

Video: Jessie J, Ariana Grande

and Nicki Minaj – Bang Bang

There are a lot of fast zooms of a lot of shot in this video

which is really effective when keeping the audience

interested as it gives more than just a plain shot,

especially when it matches to the beat.

Video: Jessie J, Ariana Grande

and Nicki Minaj – Bang Bang

This shot of the sky moving, which is shortened down

into 2 seconds, is effective and breaks up all of the fast

paced action which is something I would like to try

myself to include.

Video: Jessie J, Ariana Grande

and Nicki Minaj – Bang Bang

In this shot they have quickly zoomed out when Nicki

walks forward which brings you into the action and it

feels almost that Nicki is pushing the camera

backwards.

Video: Jessie J FT. 2 Chains –

Burning up

I like the idea of this slow motion, downwards tilt on the close up of her face, which is

also made effective by the light shining through and is something I want to include.

This close up shot is also

really nice with the shots

merge as it changes to a

different shot.

Video: Jessie J FT. 2 Chains –

Burning up

This 9 seconds long shot is nice because even though there are not edit

in-between, there are tilts mid way and the lighting flashing makes it a lot

more interesting that just a still shot. The fact it is a high angle shot also is

very creative and something I would use myself.

Video: Jessie J FT. 2 Chains –

Burning up

They have use the same shot over 3 time in time to the

beat as the shot tilts up slightly, but it is very effective

and looks good.

Video: Ariana Grande – Love Me

Harder

I like this idea of experimenting with features such as

water and the sky and either adding a slow motion

effect like what has been done in this video or speeding

things up.

Video: Ariana Grande – Love Me

Harder

This high angled rotating shot is really good in the video

and I really like it, along with the quick pull away at the

end.

Video: Rihanna – Found Love

The use of green screen or reflecting an image or

background where my artist can lip sink the word is

something I want to include an really like the use of it in

this video.

Video: Rihanna – Found Love

These establishing and action shots is as if the camera isnt even

there and they are just having a good time which is what I want to

include in my video to link with the lyrics and the meaning of the

song which is that she is living her life now how she wants.

Video: Rihanna – Found Love

I would like to experiment with lighting and this shot has

inspired my to find out how this edit was create and try it

for myself.

Video: Beyoncé - 7/11

Beyoncé in this video has used real life, raw footage she has recorded herself which I love the idea of including in section of my own to give it a sense of rawness. I especially love this edits that she put onto these shot to make it more exciting and make you

want to watch it. One example of this is the rewind she has used.

Video: Beyoncé – 7/11

The prop that has been use here by Beyoncé is a selfie stick which allowed her to record herself from an angle which get great footage that looks homemade which is something I am

willing to purchase in order to achieve this look.

Video: Beyoncé - Yoncé

Although this is not an edit, the idea of shooting with a

wall background is a good inspiration for me and would

fit well into my music video when I am recording my

artist to do lip sink.

Video: Jennifer Lopez – I’m Into

You

I like the idea of the background with the artist

singing for my video and this shot in Jennifer's is really nice

and effective as they have done it as if it’s a Silhouette of

her.

They have used this black and white effect which is really nice to include in the odd shot and vary between this and colour.

Especially in my video when the lyrics are about her past

relationship which was very negative.

Video: Jennifer Lopez – I’m Into

You

I am wanting to do shot on a beach and in the sea

and this is a really nice and influential high angle in a black and white edit

from behind.

This shot of her on

the beach starts of

very faded and out

of focus, and the

depth of field has

been shortened.
