Audience SurveyThe first part of my audience feedback came in the form of an audience survey on my blog which visitors filled out.The survey focused on getting a quick overview of how often people watched trailers and what they thought the most important aspect was and if they thought theatrical trailers where the best way to advertise a film.

Demographic Survey

My second survey focused on the demographic my audience falls under, so the survey focused on asking visitors their age, gender, favourite genre of music and film, and lastly their favourite aspect of a film trailer. This allowed me to see what kind of audience I would have to cater to.

Screening

I also showed my film to my classmates and posted it on YouTube to gain verbal feedback.

The comments made helped me to improve my film quickly as they were exact on what to improve.

What I learned from the audience survey

Most importantly I learned most people believe the theatrical trailer to be the best way to advertise a film, which made my production easier to target at a wide audience.

I also learnt that editing was considered to be the most important aspect of a trailer over mis-en-scene, sound and camera. So I made sure to spend a large amount of time focused on the editing of my trailer.

Lastly I learned that action was the most popular genre, so despite my trailer being within the thriller genre, I made sure to cater to this and include scenes of action, as seen with the tracking shot of the protagonist running down a dirt track away from the antagonist.

What I learnt from the demographic survey

Again the survey revealed action to be the most popular genre, justifying my inclusion of action scenes in my trailer to cater to my audience.

Two thirds of those who took the survey where male and most where between the age of 10 and 20.

The most favoured feature of a trailer was focus on special effects. However, I was unable to do this as I had neither the experience or equipment. But people also favoured mis-en-scene and long takes. I was able to cater to this, as the props I used where realistic and added to the authenticity of my film, the main example being the realistic guns the characters used, and my trailer featured plenty of long takes. For example, the long shot where the antagonist approaches the protagonist at gun point in the middle of the field.

What I learnt about my film via verbal feedback

• People liked the soundtrack of the film as ‘it goes nicely with what is happening on screen’.

• Audiences thought it was conventional to the thriller genre.• Audiences found the trailer to be interesting and different to other trailers

made by other media students, as mine avoided being a straight horror piece.

• The fonts used where basic and unprofessional, detracting from the quality of the trailer. However, I managed to fix this and used different fonts that are more conventional.

• Some of the shots were unsteady, the most noticeable shot being when the antagonist is first seen on top of the bridge.
