What is a media institution?

A media institution is a company or organisation that is accountable for a piece of media, either through regulation, marketing, distribution or production.

The example we have used and researched into is Warp Films – they are an independent film company based in both Australia and the UK and are well known for their production titled “This Is England”.

What does a distributor do?

A distributor in terms of media is responsible for the marketing of a film, this includes setting the release date and the way in which it is presented or made viewable, for example it may skip a theatrical release and go straight to DVD or digital download.

If a distributor may only deal with certain media formats, for example a company may only deal with DVDs or Blu-Rays.

My chosen film distributor

My chosen film institute is Warp Films, we have represented this by adding the Warp Films logo at the start of our opening sequence, as shown below.

We believe Warp Films would be a suitable distributor for our film as they are experienced in the field of low-budget films, and have dealt with films such as ‘This Is England’ which appeals to some of the audiences we hope to target with our media product.
