THE FUTURE OF COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICES AND EDUCATION

In the coming 15 years, education, technology, and the way we are taught will be different from what we are now experiencing.

Technology will have evolved to a place where if you do not know the basics you will be behind and need additional training to catch up. Especially those who plan to take any type of online course.

According to US News 5.3 million students took at least one online course in the fall of 2013 (US News and World Report, 2016). That number will grow tremendously within the next 15 years.

Marketing and promoting of the different programs will have to start in order to keep many of the community based programs going. The government funds those programs, but they are not being promoted properly so that the community can take advantage of them.

“Vouchers are intended to increase the demand for adult education by reducing its direct cost while at the same time enhancing individuals ability to exercise choice in the education market” (The Impact of and Adult Education Voucher Program, 2012) .

If the community is not taking advantage of these programs, they can be shut down for lack of use.

If the programs are not being funded, seniors may have to come out of their pockets which is not always an option. Many seniors are on a budget.

Social Security is one the government programs that is supporting seniors.

THE FUTURE OF COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICES AND EDUCATION

One scenario is that seniors can be forced to work longer than there retirement age due to the lack of social security benefits and funding to help pay for health education and medical expenses. If a senior had to choose health education over medication which one do you think they would choose. While we know both is needed to live a longer life, the decision is left to the person to decide which one is more important to them.

“Social Security’s annual surpluses of tax income over expenditures are expected to fall sharply for the year (2009) and to stay about constant in 2010 because of the economic recession, and to rise only briefly before declining and turning to cash flow deficits beginning in 2016 that grow as the bay boom generation retires”( Pritchard and Potter, 2011).

THE FUTURE OF COMMUNITY-BASED SERVICES AND EDUCATION

I believe the future of community based services and education would be a global event. In the United States there are many people who come and visit from all across the world. I believe in the coming 15 years efforts will be made for students to take online course and familiarize themselves with other countries in a way that would help bring a national awareness to how important education and lifelong learning is.

I believe that we first have to start with our very own communities and bring awareness to the seniors and the education needed for them to be independent as well.
