CORE CURRICULUM
All Year 10 pupils study:
R.E. P.E.English Language P.H.S.E English Literature CitizenshipMathematics A Modern LanguageScience Work-related Learning
GCSE OPTION CHOICES
Pupils study THREE further GCSEs
OR
Travel and Tourism Btec and ONE GCSE.
GCSE exams are now linear – exams at the end of the course. Have been designed for a two – year period of study
Reformed GCSEs have more demanding content
The reformed GCSEs will have a new grading structure
REFORMS
Will study a mix of reformed GCSEs and legacy GCSEs
This means students will receive a mixture of letter and number grades in summer 2017
CURRENT YEAR 10
For year 10 the reformed GCSEs will be in English Language, English Literature and Maths
These exams have a number of changes from previous specifications
REFORMED GCSEs
Edexcel exam board ( 9 – 1)Main changes in English Language and English Literature:
No controlled assessments – two end of course exams for English Language and English Literature
Closed book exams – means no books can be taken into the exams
ENGLISH LANGUAGE AND ENGLISH LITERATURE
Edexcel exam board 601/4700/3Main changes to Maths:Three end of course exams instead of two – one non calculator and two calculator (total time for the exams increasing from 3 ½ hours to 4 ½ hours)Volume of subject content has increasedDemand of content is increasingFewer formulae given in examsGreater emphasis on problem solving and mathematical reasoning
MATHEMATICS
Engage with teacher marking – in all subjects
School policy of WWW/EBI and expectations that pupils respond to the EBI in green pen
Research shows that high quality teacher feedback and pupil engagement with feedback has a significant impact on progress
