1. PRESENTED BY: Murli K Bairagi Department of Mechanical Engg. NIT Srinagar 1 2. INTRODUCTION Conservation of fuel is the main important criterion for nations development. Pollution level is also increasing day by day is due to incomplete combustion of fuel in automobiles. It results in decrease in brake thermal efficiency, brake power, and also results in detonation and knocking. Incomplete combustion of fuel results in the formation of CO, Nox in atmosphere, resulting adverse effect on environment. 2 3. WHY DOES INCOMPLETE COMBUSTION OCCUR ? When stoichiometric air-fuel ratio (A/F) < 1. Hydrocarbons have basically a "cage like" structure. That is why during the combustion process oxidizing of their inner carbon atoms does not completely takes place due to steric hindrance of hydrogen atoms. Hydrogen exists in its less reactive para state. 3 CH4 structure 4. A FUEL ENERGIZER (MAGNETIZER) is a device which is used to alter atomic construction and organize fuel molecules (fuel quality) so that proper combustion takes place . Fuel energizer uses neodymium iron boron magnet. It is capable of producing strong magnetic field with the help of permanent magnets. 4 FUEL ENERGIZER 5. 5 6. WORKING OF FUEL ENERGIZER Magnetic fuel treatment works on the principle of magnetic field interaction with hydrocarbon molecules of fuel and oxygen molecules. Liquid fuel is a mixture of organic chemical compound consisted predominantly of carbon and hydrogen atoms - hydrocarbons. Due to various physical attraction forces, they form densely packed structures called pseudo compounds which can further organize into clusters or associations. These structures are relatively stable and during air/fuel mixing process, oxygen atoms cannot penetrate into their interior. 6 7. When fuel flows through fuel pipe fitted with magnetizer, molecules of hydrocarbon change their configuration. At the same time inter molecular force is considerably reduced or depressed. This has the effect of ensuring that fuel actively interlocks with oxygen producing a more complete burn in the combustion chamber. The result is higher engine output, better fuel economy and a reduction in the unburnt hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen that are emitted through the exhaust. 7 8. EFFECT OF MAGNETIC FIELD ON FUEL STRUCTURE When the fuel passes through a magnetic field, created by the strong permanent magnets, due to that magnetic field hydrocarbon change their orientation and convert from para state to ortho state. These two forms are characterized by the different opposite nucleus spins. The ortho state can be achieved by applying strong magnetic field along the fuel line. In the para Hydrogen molecule, which occupies the anti-parallel rotation, the spin state of one atom relative to another is in the opposite direction, therefore it is diamagnetic. In the ortho molecule, which occupies the parallel rotational levels, the spin state of one atom relative to another is in the same direction, therefore it is paramagnetic. 8 9. When the fuel passes through a magnetic field, created by the strong permanent magnets, due to that magnetic field hydrocarbon change their orientation and convert from para state to ortho state. In ortho state inter molecular force is considerably reduced and increase space between hydrogen. This hydrogen of fuel actively interlocks with oxygen and producing a more complete burn in the combustion chamber. The magnetic field helps to disperse oil particles and to become finely divided. 9 10. MAGNETS USED NEODYMIUM IRON BORON MAGNET 13 14. MAGNETS USED A neodymium magnet (also known as Neo magnet) is a type of rare earth magnet. Permanent magnet made from alloy of neodymium, iron and boron to form Nd2Fe14B. It is tetragonal crystalline structure. It is the strongest type of permanent magnet having magnetic field of 3000 gauss . The crystal structure has high uniaxial magneto crystalline anisotropy. This gives the potential to have high coercivity. 14 15.
