Basalt rebar is a bar with continuous spiral ribbing

formed by means of winding by basalt strip. Basalt rebar got a wide range of

application in construction.

Resistant to corrosion and aggressive chemical compounds, is extremely light and durable.

They are cheaper when compared with other fibers such as S-glass, carbon or aramids .

They are superior to steel rebar in many ways but also remain cost competitive with steel, perhaps even costing less in some applications.

The high tensile strength of BFRP allows engineers to switch project requirements from #4 steel rebar to #3 BFRP, allowing additional cost savings.

SCOPE OF BASALT REBARS

RAW MATERIAL

Basalt rock is used as raw material. It is a common volcanic rock found throughout the world. The basalt usually exists as thick slabs. It is used as a road base ,used instead of lime as common base for construction

FIBERIZATION First step is production of  basalt continuous filaments.

Basalt rock is crushed into small pieces(.

Rock is melted in large furnaces.

Molten rock is drawn into thin filaments.

Through special fixtures (brushings) of platinum and

rhodium.

Drawing is done by high speed winders.

It is stretched massively , reducing the dia by 90%.

Fiber is cooled from liquid state to solid glassy state(amorphous solid).

Cooling is done with mist and brushing with liquid on it.(water or sizing which enhances the adhesion ).

Filaments of diameter between 9 and 22 microns are produced.

PULTRUSION

Page 12: Seminar basalt fiber rebars

Athul asok

Basalt filaments are turned into rebars using pultrusion.

Creel of fiber spools being pulled into resin bath.

Fibers are pulled through heated die.

Pulling process is controlled by pullers or tractors.

Sawn into lengths by inline saw.

ADVANTAGES Low specific weight: 4 times lighter than steel rebar.

Resistance to corrosion, rotting, and warping

Unique chemical resistance (potash environment, hydrochloric acid, alkali, sea water and other aggressive environments)

Low thermal conductivity

Page 17: Seminar basalt fiber rebars

Can be used over a temperature of -260/200-650/800

Long overhaul period for constructions.

Considerably lower maintenance and repair expenses

Higher operational reliability and long life of constructions and products

Lower expenses for transporting constructions and elements of constructions to the place of installation due to lower weight of the product
