INTRODUCTION:

A Thermal Power Plant converts the heat energy of coal into electrical energy. Coal is burnt in a boiler which converts water into steam above its critical for water of 705 °F(374 °C). The expansion of steam in turbine produces mechanical power which drives the alternator coupled to the turbine. Thermal power plant contribute maximum to the generation of power for the country. Thermal power plants constitute 75.43% of the totally installed captive and non-captive power generation in India. In thermal generating stations coal, oil, natural gas etc.., are taken as primary sources of energy.

2.PULVERIZING PLANT:

In modern thermal power plant, coal is pulverized i.e. ground to dust like size carried to the furnace in a stream of hot air. Pulverising is means of exposing a large surface area to the action of oxygen and consequently helping combustion.

4.BOILER: A Boiler is a closed vessel in

which water under pressure, is converted into steam.

It is one of the major components of a thermal power plant.

Always designed to absorb maximum amount of heat released in the process of combustion.

6.Turbines:

A steam turbine is a device which extracts thermal energy from pressurized steam and uses it to do mechanical work on a rotating output shaft. Its modern manifestation was invented by Sir Charles Parsons in 1884.[1][2]

9.Feed Water Heater:

By feeding water before boiler improves overall efficiency of plant.

Quantity of steam produced by boiler is increased.

12.Air Preheater:

An Air preheater increases the temperature of air supplied for coal burning.

And it drawn from the flue gases.

Air is drawn from the atmosphere by the force of draft fan.
