You Never Know This Reason Why Control Transformer JBK3 Gets Burnt

This article is to analyze some existing problems of JBK3 control transformer practicalusing, and put forward some fixing solutions.

Introduction

Control power supply plays a very key role in the stable working of control system. Thetraditional voltage transformer in mechanical equipment control system cannot bereplaced in short time although power supply is on the way towards miniaturization, high efficiency, and integration. Furthermore, it often happens in practical use that theoriginal control transformer gets burnt and seriously affects the equipment normalworking. This article is to analyze this phenomenon based on actual practice, andprovide some improving solutions.

Presently most machine tool equipment are installed with 1 or more than 2 sets ofcontrol transformers to meet different requirements. Some are for control circuit, someare for illuminating circuit, and some are for both control and illuminating circuit. It isobserved from equipment maintenance practice that the breakdown frequency ofcontrol transformer for circuit control and for both circuit control and illuminating controlis very high.

There are the reasons from following two aspects.

On the one hand, the transformer is poor in quality originally. On the other hand, thesecondary side output illuminating winding is overloading. The former problem needs tobe solved by manufacturer’s improvement on the quality. The later problem needs adeeper digging.

It can be found from the table above that secondary side illuminating capacity isdesigned with refer to 40W safe lamp as independent illuminating unit. One lamp is45V, two lamps 90V, and three lamps 135V. The control system in our equipment isdesigned according to this capacity assignment.

However, people have higher requirements on the working condition illuminatingbrightness with the improvement of living standards. 60W is applied more and morefrequently because 40W machine illuminating is not brighter enough, and therefore45VA can not meet this need. Consequently, it can not work normally for long time andthe illuminating part often gets burnt, while there is waste if 90VA is used. The wholetransformer gets burnt because the illuminating coil winding gets burnt, which affects thecomplete system normal working.

Several Solutions and Effects

There are following three solutions to above problems.

1. Strengthen machine equipment management. It is prohibited to use 60W lamps for45VA capacity illuminating part. The lamps for 90VA capacity part and 135VAcapacity part can not be more than 80W and 120W respectively.

2. Separate control transformer and illuminating transformer in new design and largescale improvement to avoid the problem that the whole complete control system isaffected by the illuminating winding breakdown.

3. Reassign the illuminating part capacity in control transformer, and design thetransformer according to 60W for each lamp. In the redesigned illuminating part, onelamp is 70VA, two lamps 140VA, and three 210VA. In this way, the system can workwell no matter using 40W lamps or 60W lamps.

The effects are different for above three solutions in our practice.

For solution 1, it is ok to some extent to strengthen management for 45VA capacity toload one lamp. But this problem happens again once the management is weak. So, itcan not solve the problem fundamentally.

As for solution 2, it’s better than solution 1, but the illuminating part still gets burnt ofteneven though only the control system normal working is guaranteed.

Solution 3 is the best and no burning happens again. It solves the problem thoroughly, and makes sure the equipment can work stably for long time.
