About the festivalAbout the festivalSponsored by Petrobras Cultural, INTERARTE, a festival of art, interaction and technology, will present in April
2011 in Rio de Janeiro plays, performances, installations and workshops that explore the new possibilities of
using technology in the arts. The atraction involves circus, theater, music, dance, visual arts and projections, all
available to the public at popular prices or free entrance.
The goal is to show the confluences between art and creative technology resulting from research involving scenic
equipment such as projectors, video game Wii controls, Kinetic, webcams, Arduino, sensors, infrared spotlights
and software interaction. The works that will be choosen outline a new proposal for the aesthetic and conceptual
art in general. In INTERARTE technology does not imply the robotization of the arts, a visual standardization. It is a
tool to enhance ideas.
We want to understand how technology can expand the capacity of artistic expression in its various dimensions:
voice, body, light, scenery, text and performance of interpreters. We want to see the results of these
experiments, but also participate in the new creative processes. That’s why we choose a schedule involving
performances and workshops.

•Outside the Washing Machine (RJ)
•Author: Juliana Pamplona
•Directors: Jaime Rodriguez and Daniel Belquer
•Cast: Bruno Carneiro, Laura Limp, Alison Kescen Marcela Moura, Mariana, Rafael Ramadan, Roberto Souza.
Written by the contemporary playwright Juliana Rio Pamplona, from Rio de Janeiro, Outside the Washing Machine shows the
daily life of a unconventional family. The play is about loneliness, the hardness of communication and propose existential
questions about the artist: how far can go his desire for expression and engagement? Why do some performers put their lives
at risk on behalf of his work?
The directors Jaime Rodriguez and Daniel Belquer explore the mecanisms of interaction in service of the actor and the story.
What matters to the directors is the possibility of uncontrolled or improvisation on the scene building a technologically
controlled environment.
“We want a performative theater, in which the representation and the authors also belong to those who are on the scene",
says Daniel Belquer. To achieve this goal, the directors have assembled a cast made up of multidisciplinary professional that
comes from theater, circus, cinema and performance.

Musical
Musical Applications for Handheld - iOS and Android
The workshop is going to show the potential of today's handheld devices, cell phones and tablets, to create
music. Due to the large processing power and an advanced operating system like iOS and Android, these devices
are nowadays portable tools for recording, manipulation and production of audio in real time. The graphical
interface and touch-sensitive wireless data communication present in these devices also allow its use as a
mechanism of interaction and remote control of other musical systems. At the end of the workshop, participants
will create a joint musical performance using these devices.

Physical Computing and Interaction Design applied to the arts.
The Interaction Design and Physical Computing are disciplines that have mobilized researchers from major
universities in the world. The workshop will address the following topics: introduction to interaction design and
physical computing, and dynamic human factors research, planning and creative process, technologies and
platforms, introduction to programming; Arduino and microcontrollers, Computer Vision, Wiimote and
accelerometers.

•Video Interface 1
•Artist: Koji Pereira
•Belo Horizonte (MG)
Video Interface 1 is an invitation for the public to create situations where the content only depend of its imagination. The installation
consists of an empty box, an LCD display that conveys a looping video. By entering any part of the body or any object inside the box, a new
looping video is recorded and automatically starts a new play.
The work is a reflection on the aesthetics of video artist Otavio Donasci, which in the 1980s developed a video work called Creatures. The
idea was to create a Video Creatures human hybrid, a cyborg. The images were pre-recorded on VHS and a frame of PVC pipe had a screen
over the heads of actors.
