The sexual exploitation of children should not be a part of the tourism reality, but it is. Although tourism is not the cause of this crime, offenders utilize the services and infrastructure of the tourism industry to carry out the crime. Thus, the tourism industry has a responsibility towards combating the sexual exploitation of children in travel and tourism. The Code is a tool that allows your company to implement child protection for responsible tourism. Come to this session to learn more.

Sexual exploitation of children linked to travel and tourism is a global crime. Tourism is NOT the cause but many offenders travel and use the service of the industry to commit the crime.

Six Criteria of The Code Part I

1. To establish a policy and procedures against sexual exploitation of children;

2. To train employees in children’s rights, the prevention of sexual exploitation and how to report suspected cases;

3. To include a clause in contracts throughout the value chain stating a common repudiation and zero tolerance policy of sexual exploitation of children;

4. To provide information to travelers on children’s rights, the prevention of sexual exploitation of children and how to report suspected cases; 5. To support, collaborate and engage stakeholders in the prevention of sexual exploitation of children; 6. To report annually on their implementation of Code related activities.
