Genre The genre is rap, we can clearly see this

in the costume of Tupac ( hes wearing gold chains, earing, which is usually associated with rap stars)

They appear to be having a party, they’re pouring champagne which is associated with rap.

The cars are lowriders, definitely iconic rap culture symbols of the 90s era

Lyrics “I’ve been in the game for ten years making rap

tunes” Other important lyrics consist of the words ‘lean’

which is a drink which is associated with rappers. Dr Dre talks about emptying ‘slugs into ya chest’ and

rappers often talk about shooting people. Tupac mentions the war between the crips and

bloods which dominated the rap scene in the 90s. Tupac also references ‘crews’ aka ‘gangs’ which are associated with rap

The title of the song is ‘California Love’ and during the 90s, Tupac also mentions the Bay area, were dominated by the rap scene.

The close ups are very important because it shows the facial expressions of tupac which are him smiling showing he’s having fun. The whole point of this video is to convey they are having a great party because California is the place to be

Females Females are definitely presented as

voyeuristically. They are wearing tight short clothes and

dancing. The lyrics themselves present the

females in a sexual light “Shake it Shake it Baby”

Intertextual references “Welcome to the wild wild west” refers to

the hot sunny setting of western films and they are also speaking about california LA which is on the West Coast of America.

“ A state that’s untouchable like Elliott Ness”. Elliott Ness was a character on the popular TV show ‘The Untouchables’.

Narrative The narrative is simply that they are

having a party. Having fun and showing why in their California is the greatest city on earth.
