- Exciting; dangerous- Murder; what makes murderers tick? E.g. Dexter- Good normally triumphs over evil- Crime drama are often very moralistic, the
audience see criminal behaviour punished, this often reassurance that criminal justice works. But the TV series The Wire does not offer this reassurance; it exposes corruption in criminal justice system.
- Audiences are active; they predict narrative resolution
- They are sociable, people talk about then, set up fan blogs est.

- Flexible storylines; options limitless- Good at filling TV schedule
