A brief history of magic

Since ancient times, magic has been the tool of all civilizations. While the particles are abundant while nature is present, the energy is not easily transformed. As such, priests, prophets, and healers who were capable of using magic are highly regarded in their society. The skill to transform magic became more innate in the medieval ages especially because of the practice of slaves and women to survive through a long history of abuse.

The sun (transmutation), the moon (divination), and the star (summoning) were the earliest forms of magic modern magickery is based from.

A brief history of magic

The common knowledge of using untrained magic put a problem of control over the public. It was often hazardous that led to accidents but it was notoriously known to have had created major crimes before effective laws were reformed.

'Maleficent,' one of the known cruelest witch overthrew kingdoms into chaos until her death by the sword of a vagabond prince. Her crow survived and was said to have inherited her deadly magic to give birth to the magical creature Murkrow (Yamikarasu).

A brief history of magic

To secure safety and lessen the dependency to the individual's capability to use magic, technology developed rapidly. Magical energy is now supplied through batteries and power hubs by the government while appliances and other equipments automatically transform the energy to do the magic it is supposed to do.

The discovery of magical creatures

Around the late 90's, creatures that displayed human-like intelligence and magic capability were discovered in the wild by biologists. Cryptologists believe that these creatures have been around longer, having been sighted as sea monsters, yetis, and ghosts. Archeologists believe that dragons and mythical creatures found in relics, paintings, and vases were inspired from the creatures that have stayed hidden until recently.

An old painting that was believed to have been a mystical dragon is potentially inspired by a Dragonite because of the striking resemblance.

The discovery of magical creatures

Interaction with the magical creatures slowly began and animal behaviorists said that these magical creatures display pattern similar to animals but the diversity of the creatures made it impossible to align them with the animals. The magical creatures were quick to adapt after human interaction although precaution is still highly recommended when facing wild magical creatures. Professionals and experts for the handling study of magical creatures began although its still yet to reach popularity today.

A Skitty (Eneco), one of the couple domesticated magical creatures. It is regarded as an exotic pet like any other magical creatures kept as one.

The leading organizations and individuals

Many organizations were founded since the discovery of magical creatures. Edo, one of the five El Dorado also called as the Country of Gold (gold connoting magic), is home to many Legendary Creatures such as in the region of Kanto and Unnova, so the government quickly funded organizations to study magical creatures. Among them is the Association of Pokemon Trainers, designed to coordinate Trainers in the country. The most known organization is the Society of Pokemon Masters, expert Trainers master in combat and magic, which spread all over the world and is currently withstanding today. Under the Association is the recently formed Pokemon Master Committee, a lesser version of the Society.

The leading organizations and individuals

Perhaps the greatest scientist behind the magical creatures was the Amerigen-born Lucius Bush who identified more than a hundred magical creatures and created Types to group the creatures according to the elements, subsequently discovering the strength and weakness of a Type over another. He also identified Moves, the magic of a magical creature and named fifty of them.

Among other notable scientists are Sable Roots (specializing in Legendary Creatures), Gemma Vine (current Association chairwoman), and Raj Clover (Pokemon genetics specialist).

The leading organizations and individuals

Not just scientists lead the world of the magical creatures. Happy Schwyz founded the Pokemon Center, which is now the hospital for magical creatures all over the world, while Jenarae Offis began the anti-crime against magical creatures.

Pokemon Master 'Red' is known to be the youngest Master and have started the chain of color-based stage names for young Trainers who become Masters as well.

Birth of 'Pokemon' and Trainers

Although they are still often referred as magical creatures, those in the field have developed a term for them, “Pokemon,” which is a portmanteau of 'pocket' and 'monsters.' Pokemon have been side-by-side with Trainers, who use magic to tame and aid them in battle. As handling Pokemon requires skill, only registered Trainers may use them outside of study and work.

Essential Trainer knowledge and equipment

Aside from general knowledge of Pokemon (types, moves, etc), a Trainer must be familiar with magickery. Through Summoning, he is able to capture a Pokemon and call it anytime. This also binds the Pokemon to the Trainer. Next, through Transmutation, he is able to aid his Pokemon in combat by turning magic into a healing, restorative, or boosting essence. There are other forms of magickery that might be useful to a Trainer but these two are the required basic magical knowledge.

Essential Trainer knowledge and equipment

A good Trainer must carry around certain items, mostly used in his magic. He must also be aware of the special items he should take advantage of.

Apricorns are needed to capture and summon Pokemon. As the magic comes from the smell, it must be cracked open and sniffed.

Berries are needed to transmute. As the magic comes from the flavor, it must be eaten. Complex transmutations involve Pokeblocks, which is done by eating the berries at the same time.

Impact of Pokemon to the public

Pokemon were received differently from culture to culture. They were generally positive reaction to them but were cautious of their ability to use magic readily. The public lacks desirable knowledge about Pokemon except for their ability to use magic. There are plenty of news of Pokemon being a danger and not a lot (even Trainers) treat them as allies. It goes two ways though as Pokemon too are cautious of humans. It will take some effort and much more time for the two races to co-exist.
