Horror Movie AnalysisLouise De Cristoforo.
The visit
This poster is created to look like it has been hand stitched. The poster has ‘Grandma’s Rules’ on it, the last one being, “Don’t leave your room after 9;30 pm.” This makes the view want to watch the film to know what happens after this time.
There has been a house “stitched” onto it. The house looks lovely and peaceful, which is ironic due to what happens in the events of the film.
On the sides of the poster, there is blood finger prints. This suggests the film will contain death or murder. The writing is also red to symbolise the blood and death.
On the top of the poster, it tells the viewer that the film has been produced by the same producers and directors as ‘Paranormal Activity’, ‘Insidious’, ‘The Sixth Sense’ and ‘Signs’. This draws in the fans of those films to watch this film.
Paranormal activity: the ghost dimension
In the photo of the girl, there are visible lines across the image and a time in the corner. This shows that the image has been took from a home made movie. The light coming from the hole in the wall comes out of the photo, giving it a 3D effect which links to how the film is coming out in both 2D and 3D.
On the top of the poster it says, “For the first time you will see the activity.” This links to the film being brought out in 3D. By doing this, it will bring the viewer closer to the action.
The film name has been written in red. This links to blood and danger, showing something bad is going to happen in the film.
Sinister
This poster has a bold title all in one font which is central and will be this first thing you read when looing at the poster. It font is particularly creepy and gives a supernatural look to it.
There is a face in the blood which is dripping down the wall, coming from the girls hand. The face looks like some sort of demon which brings an evil vibe to the poster. The face is also a main part of the film later on.
The background of the poster is very grim and dull which makes the blood and girls stand out to the audience, making it eye catching.
The girl on the poster is a stereotypical female victim who is portrayed to look weak and vulnerable.
On the top of the poster it says, “from the producers of Paranormal Activity and Insidious”. This makes the fans of those films want to go and see this one.
The Boy
The poster for this film has a dark mise-en-scene in a narrow corridor with “a boy” sat at the window with a bar like pattern on. This could suggest the boy is trapped in the house.
The title of the film looks as if it was been scratched in, giving the poster a creepy look.
At the top of the poster of the poster it says, “every child needs to feel loved,” and continues on the bottom by saying, “follow his rules this January.”This draws the audience in and makes them want to find more out about the boy and they film.
