How does your magazine Represent a particular social group?
soul music arrives from the blues and carries a very pure and
truthful ambience with it. I have tried to mainly target an
audience who appreciate the honesty and purity of the music By
involving and revolving the magazines ethos around old and original
soul artist.
However as a more business matter, there needs to be some sense
of leniency towards the greater public to keep the magazine fresh
and current. That is why while making the magazine I not only
listened to, but taken inspiration from old and new soul music to
make them form an overall and general soul magazine.
While soul music is a reflective style of music more suited to
classy refined and sophisticated listeners, I have understood that
it must cater to the listeners that see soul as a way emotional
expression and escape. And although the two personalities are
extremes they can both work it terms of image on my magazine. For
instance, take the gracious Nina Simone and Adele in comparison to
the earthy Erykah Badu and seductive Amy Winehouse.
In conclusion the overall representation of this social group is
cultured. Its tasteful and pure, but still artistic and expressive.
This is shown in the mixture of costume and composition. I.e.. The
head wrap and jewellery is expressive of character but is dignified
and refined by the soft gradient backdrops . Same goes for the
fonts they show sophistication and artistic edginess
