MUSIC IN THE UK

Britain is very famous for pop music, classical music and jazz music.

The best known artists are the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Elton John, George Michael and The Spice Girls.

Today we listen to punk, house, garage, rock, pop and R&B.

ORIGINS

The best music was in the songs sung and dance music played by ordinary people.

DIFFERENT TRENDS

Americans influenced in the Rock&Roll. Music in Britain is very popular.

The best know band is The Beatles.

The punk is British music, it is very popular in the world.

Heavy Metal is important too with bands: Iron Maiden and Motorhead.

MUSIC IN BRITAIN FROM 1920s TO THE PRESENT DAY

1920s - young people listened to ragtime and Jazz

1930s – swing became popular. The music was fast and fanatical. The jazz continued to be popular.

1940s – after the war the music was listened to everywhere. After the war “skiffle” bands became popular.

1950s – Rock&Roll became very popular.

1960s – The Beatles began their career. Their generation was the flower-power.

1970s – The punk began to be popular. Their style was Mohicans

1980s – We saw the rise of hip hop and rap music. The American influences help in fashion.

1990s – Some bands became very popular: Radiohead, Oasis, Blur, Pulp, Massive Attack and The Spice Girls.
