4. Who would be the audience for
your media product?
In the pitch for our film, we specified the target audience of our film to be people aged 16-45; a wide age range, as we feel that
anyone who likes psychological thrillers would enjoy the film, rather than it only appealing film to a certain age bracket. We
also aimed the piece at an ABC1 mainstreamer audience, due to the psychological elements of the film, an aspect that we believed
would appeal to a higher social class audience.
From our research, we found that the enigma code narrative of thriller films tend to widely attract a male audience. We feel however that the lead female character and the strong relationship between the Darius and Lisa will also attract a female audience, as it is not entirely guns, explosions and typically ‘manly’ narratives and props.
The rating for our film is a certificate 12A. We originally planned for it to be a 15 certificate, but decided that, accompanied by an adult, this film would be suitable for ages 12 and upwards. We chose this certificate because of the central themes of our film; it contains main plotlines that involve murder, kidnapping and use of weapons. In addition to this, there is use of bad language at times, and sustained threat. For this reason we felt that the film would not be appropriate for a younger audience. Furthermore, we believe that a younger audience may have trouble grasping the plotline of the film, and therefore would not enjoy it anyway, not understanding what is going on, or being able to follow the psychological aspects of the film

By closely analysing similar films to ours from the thriller genre, we were able to specify our audience more easily. We found that fans of films
such as those shown above, would be people who enjoy key aspects of the thriller genre such as suspense, action, and surprising twists and turns, and so tried to include these elements in our film. Therefore we can suggest that our audience is anyone who enjoy films that exercise
key elements of the thriller genre.
