A day in the life of a hungry Pioneer

Take a virtual walk around the University of Denver campus to explore available eateries.

Start your day off right with a balanced breakfast. For students who want more than a simple bowl of cereal, Brueggers offers an assortment of breakfast sandwiches and the classic bagel and shmear.

To satisfy students’ caffeine cravings, work-hard, play-hard young people can pop next door to find their fix at the new and improved Starbucks on University and Asbury.

For classic, greasy spoon diner fare, head up the street to Pete’s University Café. But do notice the vacancies from recent restaurant closures along the way.

Denver restauranteer, Josh Epps attributes a lack of parking to a number of dining option closures that occur around the DU-area. Instead, he suggested delivery could boost business, as Zaza’s Pizzeria is advertising accordingly.

Just next door, Thai Basil, a fast-casual, Asian fusion café which has opened within the last several months, also jumped on the delivery bandwagon. This is the former location of Garbanzo’s which closed its doors less than a year ago.

Thanks to the fro-yo craze, Nova Yogurt Co. opened on University Boulevard so passersby can indulge in a low-fat dessert option, especially now that the weather is heating up.

Or if you’ve still got that sweet tooth, get a MOOve on and turn the corner at Evans Ave. for a sweet treat at Ben and Jerry’s.

You can also travel toward the mountains a few blocks further to experience the original Chipotle location.

Providing Mexican fare, a full bar, late hours and occasional entertainment, Illegal Petes proves to be a popular option among the DU community.

Across the street, the University neighborhood awaits Snarf’s sandwiches with their stomachs growling in anticipation. Though it was expected to open Monday, April 16, according to founder and owner Jimmy Seidel, it appears furniture and food products and the necessary elements for the first full bar for the franchise, are slowly but surely making their way into the sub shop.

Scheduled to open at the end of the summer, jammed breakfast spot Jelly will take the place of Tokyo Joe’s on University Boulevard. The original Capitol Hill location regularly hosts a line out the door with patrons willing to wait over an hour to try a twist on the average breakfast.
