Saw VI (1/9) Movie CLIP - A Pound of Flesh (2009) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEw-cBg0lJY

Lighting • In this scene the lighting starts with a dark lighting but as soon as the

bad character starts speaking the lighting goes even darker. This creates tension because when the lighting goes darker and his face is on the TV screen, he has everyone's attention and everyone is focused on him. In addition there are also a few shadows in the scene which makes the atmosphere negative. Also when the scale is shown there is light shining by it so the audience can see it. This is very effective because it is there isn't much light in the scene but when the scale is shown, light is shown which makes the audience feel involved.

The light goes slightly lighter when the places are being shown.

Props • There are many crops used in this scene such as a:• Scale• Machete • Knife• Torture device (on head)• TV

Setting • The setting for this clip is an isolated dark room with cages that the

two characters are trapped in. The setting is effective because it makes the audience feel sympathy for the characters because they are trapped and they cant come out. Also it is a very dark site which is one of the main effective things in horrors because it makes the audience know whether the atmosphere is going to be negative or positive.

The dark room with cages

Costume • The costumes in this clip are normal casual clothing that turn bloody

towards the end of the clip. Also in the beginning of the clip you see what the bad character is wearing which is a suit with a red bowtie and a mask. This is a strange appearance of the bad character because usually in horrors, the villain of the movie aren't dressed in smart clothes.

Sound • The sound of the bad character’s voice was a creepy calm voice. This

caused a lot of tension in the scene because when he was speaking everything else was silent which shows how much control he had over the other characters. The other sounds that where in the scene where the two people screaming which was effective because it shows how much pain the characters where going through. In addition another thing that made the scene effective that whilst the two characters where screaming, the clock was ticking loudly throughout the scene which makes the audience feel sympathetic because they know the time is running out which puts pressure on them.

Camera • Throughout this clip there is a lot of quick camera movement. This is

effective because it shows how quick things are happening in the scene. Also there are a lot of point of view shots which is effective because it lets the audience see things from the characters point of view and it makes them feel involved. In addition there are a lot of zoom shots. For example when the bad character is telling the victims what to do the camera zooms in on the objects that is spoken about like the scale. Also the camera zooms in on the characters faces so the audience can see the facial expressions of the characters which is effective because it makes the audience feel sympathy for what the characters are going through.

Editing • The editing pace of the film is slow because the frames don’t change

very quick. This is effective because it gives the audience more time to see the frames and what is going on in the scene. For example in the beginning when the bad character is talking pace is slow so it give the audience time to see him and also time to hear what he is saying.

Movement of characters• At the beginning of the clip the characters don’t move at all because

they where listening to jigsaw’s instructions. This movement shows how terrified the characters where because they focused on him whilst he was talking. However towards the middle/ ending of the clip, both of the characters start moving quickly when the clock starts ticking. This also relates to how scared the characters where because they start moving rapidly as soon as the clock starts ticking.

These two images show the fear in their facial expression and how concentrated they are.
