THE INITIAL IDEAS PITCH

• IntroIn this piece of work I will be describing what my music video, for the song ‘In This Life’ by Frank Leday, will be like. I will look at what the video will represent and how the video will play out and look at different aspects of the video. These aspects include:

- Narrative- Content- Audience- Style and form- Representation

•ContentMy music video is about a guy who splits up with his girlfriend and sees his life go down hill from there. The music video will follow his journey of getting over the girl and readjusting his life so that it does not revolve around the girl. For example, there will be shots of the guy putting all his girlfriends things in a box and throwing away photos of them together. As the song is about things that happen in everyday life, the video will be quite realistic. I will probably not use to many special effects to create the look I want for the video as I feel it should be quite rustic and natural, sticking to artist’s style.

•Audience

• Age and gender–The target audience for this music video would be females, from around 30 – 60. This is because Frank Leday’s country style is similar to musician's such as Trace Adkins and Dolly Parton, who’s target audience are similar to his.

• Class – I would say that the class of the audience would be somewhere between working class and middle class. As the lyrics of the song may not interest people who are from are lesser off background.

Artist’s whose music video’s will influence my own.

• Existing marketing consumption – The audience would most likely buy magazines. Such as Country weekly and Maverick, (a monthly country, blues and folk music online magazine). Also, they may watch CMT (Country Music Television) and be involved in CMT’s website, e.g. listen to their online radio.

• Style and formThe style of the video will be quite relaxed, I will do this by using slow pans and shots that blur into one another, rather than quick cuts that would make the video more upbeat. The music videos may be similar to Trace Adkins – just Fishin’ (See below PowerPoint for video), as he’s video is set in quite a relaxed and natural setting. Some parts of the video may also be in black and white, to add to the gloomy tone of the song.

• Representation

The music video will properly be working with the country music stereotype, that all country music is about breaking up/divorce, depression, getting drunk, and tractors. As the song itself is about a guy breaking up with his girlfriend and the song includes lyrics such as ‘Cried on many a tear in this life’ and ‘shattered dreams in this life’, I would say that as the song works with the country music stereotype, so should it’s video.

• NarrativeThe music video is about a guy, who would probably be played by the artist himself if possible, who breaks up with his girlfriend and his world basically falls apart.

The video will be split into to different scenes, which will merge between each other. - In the first scene we will see the artist performing the song or mouthing the words to the song in natural settings, such as in his home, outside (woods, streets) and performing the song in a bar.- In the second scene the music video will follow the guy as he breaks up with his girlfriend and tries to get over her.
