The contemporary distraction that secludes us from the real world. From millions of pixels to an expensive gaming industry. Video games are becoming a constant part in our day to day lives, and we are none the wiser of not acknowledging the control it has.

This is becoming more of an addiction, soon to consume our authority within our minds- the slave to the gaming industry is what we have developed into.

It’s not visible to us as the signs are not in front of us, but the media uses this medium as form of mind control. We have become accustomed into believing that we are the aces of this medium, also some games we have the power to design our character, location and etc. This is just another method to deceive us because the media is supposedly letting us decide from our minds do what we want, but at the same time we are still playing their video games, which means that we hooked, hypnotised to a fantasy world is what you could say, but the harsh reality is we are not in control of our destiny.

Parents brand video games as time consuming and what’s even worse is that the education experts think that these games are corrupting our minds, but from what proof? There is no solid evidence that every gamer will become violent. These experts are giving gamers a shield to cover their inadequate behaviour towards society by blaming video games. How about taking 100% responsibility for your own actions?

Video games can’t be the weapon of evil because they have been proven to benefit kids by making them smarter. How? By teaching them high thinking skills that they will use in real life situations.

Some video games you have to work in a team and use tactics to reach the objective and avoid loss of lives-this disciplines the gamer. Also when the gamer’s character is in a hostile situation, the gamer will have to multi-task and think quickly on their feet which gives them the experience of awareness.

Gamers will have to follow instructions so they are able to finish off the narrative, and at the same time you enhance your English skills.Michigan State University’s Children and Technology Project has found another positive thing about gaming- that it increases your creativity.

More than 50% of video games can increase management, planning, and strategic awareness, self-confidence and self-esteem as you master the game. These skills that you have achieved can be used in real life circumstances.

This is one question for those you oppose video games, you say that playing video games is harmful, but isn’t safer than doing drugs, drinking alcohol to a dangerous extent, or hanging around street corners?

Magnetism is what video games have created where it brings people together to compete which means socialising, and there’s nothing wrong with that.

Violence is a common issue raised when it comes video games. Kids who play violent game are apparently more likely to have a violent streak. Violence in many games is rewarded which is a bad thing for youngsters, sending them a message; do bad receive good. You can’t simply say that violence is not needed to complete the mission in some games because it’s essential to finish off the narrative.

Failing the mission frustrates the gamer making them short tempered and being told that you have failed, depresses the gamer and affects them mentally in some cases.

Video games have bad effects such as people’s health; obesity, video induced seizures, damaged eye sight, and isolating themselves from others.

Throughout my report I have stated the good and the bad, regardless of what I have stated; video games have graved a place in the media industry with a firm grip. Video games let us express happiness, excitement, anger, frustration, and competiveness, this is a sign of success as the creator has made the gamers react.

This medium has its pros and cons but it still remains the product of mass consumption and it’s up to us to play in moderation, so we are in control of our decisions.
