What is EIA?

• Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is the process by which the anticipated effects on the environment of a proposed development or project are measured. If the likely effects are unacceptable, design measures or other relevant mitigation measures can be taken to reduce or avoid those effects.

• The document from this process is called an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS).

Environmental Impacts of Padma Bridge

• About 295,072 trees loss (Excluding 485,074 bamboo and banana trees)

• Crops 24,684 tons

• Loss of fish breeding area about 767 ha, 12 ha fishing ponds will be filled up, etc.

• Generate about 50 Million cubic meter dredge material from the river

• Traffic congestion, safety hazards, noise pollution, sanitation, health and hygiene, waste generation etc.
