Marching Marshal – Bloor Street
OVERVIEWReporting to the Marching Captain, the Marshals are responsible for event-day liaison tasks with the marching contingents to ensure safe and orderly conduct in the staging area, and smooth travel down the parade route.
EXPECTED TASKS – EVENT DAYMarshals will be assigned to a section of the parade line-up on Bloor Street (some sections will have later arrival times than others) and will be responsible for ensuring the following:- That groups assemble within their designated area- That marchers are fully assembled within their group by 12:40pm ready for a five-minute call to start the parade- That volunteers are directed to the location of bathrooms and garbage drop-off points as requested- That any concerns of marcher safety or bannering are reported to the Marching Captain or Parade Team Lead
Once the parade has commenced, the Marshals will accompany their groups down the parade route and be responsible for ensuring that the groups do not stop for any unnecessary reason as the travel down the route.
At the end of the parade route, Marshals will direct their group to the marching section of the de-staging area where their role will finish.
Vehicle Marshal – Rosedale Valley Road
OVERVIEWReporting to the Marshal Captain, the Marshals are responsible for event-day liaison tasks with the vehicle contingents to ensure safe and orderly conduct in the staging area, and smooth travel down the parade route.
EXPECTED TASKS – EVENT DAYMarshals will be assigned to a section of the parade line-up along Rosedale Valley Road and will be responsible for ensuring thefollowing:- That vehicles are parked within their designated chalked area- That volunteers who are working on the floats are doing so within their area and are not spilling into the vehicle passing lane- That drivers (or a designated OPERATOR) are in their vehicles at all times in case a vehicle has to be moved in an emergency- That volunteers are directed to the location of bathrooms and garbage drop-off points as requested- That any concerns of float/vehicle safety are reported to the Marshal Captain or Parade Team Lead
Once the parade has commenced, the Marshals will accompany their group of floats down the parade route and be responsible for ensuring that the groups do not stop for any unnecessary reason as they travel down the route.
At the end of the parade route, Marshals will direct the vehicle into the vehicle de-staging area where their role will finish.
De-staging Support – Dundas Street
OVERVIEWReporting to the De-staging Captain; de-staging support team members are responsible for assisting in the management and flow of the de-staging area to ensure safe and orderly conduct.
EXPECTED TASKS – EVENT DAYDe-staging Support Team Members will be assigned within the de-staging area on Dundas street and will be responsible for ensuring the following:- Vehicles only are allowed into the de-staging area (people on vehicles are to remain on the vehicle until it reaches its parking
spot)- Vehicles will be ushered to an open parking spot- Drivers and vehicle occupants will be informed that they have 5 minutes to secure loose items and get all people off the vehicle- Vehicles will then be ushered out of the de-staging area to a controlled intersection where the police will assist them in
merging into live trafficDe-staging support team members will remain in the de-staging area until the end of their shift or until the parade ends at which point the role will finish.
