Cancer is a prevalent disease in India. According to India’s National Institute of Cancer Prevention and Research, approximately 2.5 million residents live with the condition. The number grows each year as new individuals receive a diagnosis. In fact, the country records 700,000 new cases annually. Of the population of individuals living with the condition, more than 500,000 die per year.

• Those aged 30 to 69 make up a majority of the deaths, with men having a higher mortality rate than women.

In particular, men are more susceptible to cancers related to the oral cavity and lungs. Stomach, colorectal, and pharynx cancers also are more prevalent in males. A high percentage of deaths among women also derive from colorectal and oral cavity cancers. Ovary and cervix as well as breast are among the top five types of cancers leading to death in females.
